The African American - Nigerian Proposal by Nobody: 7:15am On Jan 02, 2022
Nairaland,

I am African-American, proposing an effort between underserved markets here in America and emerging markets in Africa.

There are great opportunities among us.

Fueled by racial inequality, African-Americans are motivated to:

- Start businesses
- Make investments
- Buy from Black owned businesses
- Seek financial freedom
- Pass down generational wealth

The problem is only a few get it. Most don’t have the tools, or know where to start.

What I can ascertain from books and other media sources, Nigerians need:

- Startup funding
- Employment
- Competitive edge (American ties)
- Improved Infrastructure / Logistics
- Also financial freedom

Thus a need exists for a novel platform in which the two niche groups can benefit from various degrees of partnerships and financing. A type of symbiosis utilizing resource management with means of navigating public policy and diminishing complexities of the underserved and emerging markets gaining transnational exposure.

To increase chances of success and maximize impact it needs to be open source, for the most part. Data and third-party plugins will be proprietary. Anyone can create and monetize plugins.

Ideally, as the app is created so will documentation and detailed tutorials. Anyone will be able to play with the source code and get involved.

Before announcing the project in a major way, methodologies, processes, and procedures of operation need to be tested and worked out to ease onboarding.

Although the GitHub repository will be available for anyone to contribute, it’s necessary to designate a Junior Android Developer as Core Contributor to help create a simple minimum viable product.

Typically developers work on open source projects for free. However I am very passionate about this project and willing to pay 100 USD, or about 41k NGN a month for someone to help me get started.

This is more of a side project than full-time work.

The candidate should have some familiarity with:

- Kotlin
- Android Studio
- GitHub
- Command Line

And able to commit to at least one short weekly virtual meeting (10 - 15 min).
Also respond to email and or other agreed upon methods of communication in a reasonable amount of time.

This is a great opportunity to sharpen your developer skills. Even if you’re not a Core Contributor you can still contribute as a volunteer.

The goal is to eventually form a startup where contributors to the open source project will be prioritized for full-time hire.

I welcome all suggestions and questions.

Thanks,

Metajinn
