The Dialogue The Prince Could Not Avoid Nor Annul by Mamajama(m): 5:28pm On Dec 24, 2007
he son of the prince is praying for his father ahead of 2007. But it is too late; no prayer can save the prince now. The prince knew it. The gods are also aware and waiting to move into action. As flies to wanton boys is the prince to the gods; they will tear him apart for their sport coming off with great cackles and roars. This may turn out to be worse that what Gideon Okar did to the prince.

"What did Gideon do to me?"

"Just forced you to relocate, that's all."

"We did not relocate; we just moved the Federal capital to Abuja?"

"But you moved it well ahead of schedule, only everything worked out well. The forced movement encouraged the allocation of more cash for the Federal Capital Territory and the haste to complete Abuja. The rush to relocate to Abuja was an act of a coward afraid of a single bullet and unwilling to handover to anyone but himself. How did Gideon Okar do it, just walking into Dodan Barracks like that?" Some dumb schmuck must have been managing security for the evil genius. Obviously the prince and his boys were evil, but genius they are not. Okar and his men overran the big boys and did not even cut the telephone and telecommunication system!

Sadly the prince did not wait to fight back; he was caught unawares and needed time to prepare a war council. Why are guys laughing and giggling? A man wants to avoid a fight and allow a tribunal to settle the fight between him and the irritants that came to challenge him, what is wrong with that? It does not matter what Nigerians think and it just does not matter what it will cost to move to Abuja as long as the president is safe and sound, alive and in power.

"Is it true you ran that day and forgot your amulets and charms at Dodan Barracks?"

Silence.

It must be very serious the fire that made the prince run without looking back. He ran to hang on to power; at all cost it must have been for him to cling to power. Now he wants that power back. I agree with the prince that the power should shift back to him. He only stepped aside in 1993. If he won't be allowed to hold firm to it, then Abiola won't have it. It is as simple as that.

"Who does this MKO think he is?"

"He is the winner of the June 12 election."

"Which election, the one that was inconclusive?

But only a few remaining results needed to be recorded on Humphrey Nwosu's Option A4 electoral Board in Abuja."

"We did not have all the results."

"You know that is not true. You did not allow the results to be posted."

"Leave me alone, there were no final results and that is it."

"You did not want to leave."

"Leave for where?"

"For Minna, retire to Minna."

"I was too young to retire."

"You should have told the nation."

"I told them, but they would not listen."

"I did not hear you say it. You ruined the nation and the people."

"It's not me; it's the subversive elements".

"And you paid them to do it. People like the gunrunner, Arthur Nzeribe and his ABN."

"I am referring to the troublemakers in the South."

"Those were no troublemakers but great patriots and lovers of Nigeria."

"I love Nigeria better."

"You only love her to rape her, take the juice off her."

"That is not true. I love Nigeria genuinely."

"Tell that to the marines is the answer MKO will give you."

"Are you now speaking for MKO?"

"I speak the truth and that's all. Mark you, MKO will be watching you in 2007 from above."

"Let him watch me. Allah will protect me."

"Leave Allah out of it. You did not consult him before rubbishing MKO's mandate."

"It was not my fault and you know I did my best."

"Your best was hardly enough."

"I changed Nigeria for good."

"Changed her for worse and looted her."

"I've had enough of you."

"I was just saying you…"

"No more word from you."

"But I am…"

"Shot up, I said."

"Okay, I keep quiet for now."

"Just keep your mouth shut."

The prince dosed for a few hours. He turned restlessly in his sleep, blood-shut eyes tired, heavy and weak. He could no longer sleep and then thoughts crept back without warning,

"Why did you annul the election?"

"What do you mean, why did you annul the election?"

"You know what I mean."

"We wanted someone a little to the left and a little to the right to win."

"Like Bashir Tofa, eh?"

"Tofa is a clown of the first order."

"Like who then?"

"None of those aspirants fit into the mould."

"Was that why you were shifting the goal post at will?"

"The goal post shifted. No one touched it."

"Just like that? There was a noticeable hand; it may not be visible."

"Only Nwosu did not do as he was told or as he promised to do."

"Ah, Nwosu. The guy laughed more than you do. He actually out-laughed you."

"The idiot! He did not follow our script."

"Was there a script? Was the transition programme scripted?"

"Well, we had a plan to ensure a successful transition."

"And Nwosu had another plan and a different idea!"

"Can you leave me alone and get lost."

A moment of silence but nothing has changed. The voice did not shift and no gun can rid it of the prince. And then in the thick of the night, in the middle of a dream, the voice returned to probe further and torment:

"You betrayed the nation."

"I ruled the nation."

"Ruled it, ruined it and grounded it."

"We did our best"

"You stole the best"

"We did not steal"

"Did you misappropriate then?"

""We did not misappropriate, maybe misapplicated here and there."

"Is there much difference between the two?"

"Between which two?"

"Misappropriate and misapplicate."

"Don't ask me. Ask Wole Soyinka."

"Ah, Wole Soyinka!"

"What about him?"

"He took you to task."

"He is just a nuisance."

"A positive nuisance."

"We just did not want to kill him."

"But you were tempted to?"

"Shut up and let me think!"

"Think about what?"

"What else. The current transition Obasanjo is managing."

"Are you interested?"

"Naturally."

"Mariam wants her Better Life back or what?"

"Mariam will remain the First Lady, Isha Allah."

"Isha Allah again! The Isha Allah you kept swearing on day and night those days! The Isha Allah that was nothing but your liar's weapon "

"I am a good muslim and follow the dictates of Allah."

"And you think it is the will of Allah for you to step back into Aso Rock in 2007?"

"If it pleases Him."

"You call Allah too much."

"I am a very pious muslim."

"How about Gani Fawehinmi?"

"Is Gani a muslim?"

"He is and it shows, it shows in his way of life."

"It shows much more in my life."

"I cannot see it."

"Shut up."

"You can't shut me up. Gani lives what he preaches, that's it."

"Meaning what?"

"Meaning that you preach and practice different things."

"And what is that to you?"

"You are a fake and a fraud."

"Shut up, you fool."

"You are not tolerant at all."

"Tolerant of what?"

"Of other people's views."

"I am. I believe in dialogue."

"Like the IMF/World Bank loan dialogue?"

"Yes, we encouraged dialogue and allowed people to debate the IMF and its conditionalities. People spoke their mind and spoke freely. We took the debate to every local government and every community. Akinyele did a wonderful job."

"I remember the people said no, capital no, but you went ahead anyway and took the loan anyway."

"The AFRC in its wisdom thought differently."

"You are the AFRC don't forget."

"I am not. There are about twenty of us on the AFRC."

"But only one voice took all the decisions, even the decision to take the IMF loan. All the others are just your sidekicks"

"You don't know what you are talking about and you were not on the AFRC."

"Mamman Vatsa was on the AFRC."

"Mamman Vatsa was a traitor."

"To you, yes. Nigerians also see you as a traitor."

"I did not betray Nigeria, I built it."

"You built it with rotten tomatoes and sand."

"You are becoming a nuisance. Can you stop harassing me."

"You harassed Nigerians and stole from them."

"I did not steal."

"So what do you live on, your savings? Your pension? Your factory or your investments?"

"I have worked hard all my life."

"You've been a soldier all your life."

"That was hard work."

"That was nothing but working hard on pepper soup and beer."

"We work in the army."

"Like when you try to outrun one another, one coup after another, eh?"

"The military tradition…"

"What tradition was that, the coup-to-millionaire tradition?"

"I am not a millionaire."

"Then what are you?"

"A retired military president"

"Military president? Can a military man call himself president?"

"Why not?"

"Your ambition caused this nation gravely."

"You want to start? Just shut up"

"I was thinking, what if OBJ gave you the June 12 treatment?"

"That is not possible."

"Anything is possible in this land."

"Not in this case. Everything is planned out."

"In the same way you planned the transition."

"You are irritating me."

Does the truth irritate?"

"What truth?"

"You know I am speaking the truth."

"Whatever."

"The people don't want you back."

"Who told you that?"

Is it not very obvious, why don't you get it and leave them alone?"

"I have a democratic right to contest."

"The democracy Abiola gave his life for."

"I enthroned democracy in this country, Abiola did not give no nothing for democracy."

"But are you qualified to contest?"

"More than qualified?"

"Do you have the educational qualification required?"

"I have it."

"Show me. Show me your secondary school degree. How many credits are there?"

"What is that to you?"

"I was just thinking you might be disqualified."

"No one can disqualify me."

"No one is greater or bigger than this country, remember?"

"Can you shut up now, right now, keep quiet and leave me alone."

"Get real, prince of perdition, your days of doom are here. This son of a gun will fall flat from one fatal encounter to mortal destruction."

Isn't the conversation or dialogue a good piece but only in your dreams.

IBB is not that quiet intelligent to understand or interested in Nigerians as frankly all the conversation is like talking to a deaf person who has master degree in dumbness.

It was nice sha.

The Orkar coup was kind of wacky after listening to the broadcast speech. It felt like a bunch of thugs high on dope decided to overthrow the government, not knowing what to do with the power.
