A Benin Chief Magistrates’ Court will Friday
commence trial of suspects alleged to be
behind the gruesome murder of Comrade
Olaitan Oyerinde, the Principal Private
Secretary to Edo State Governor, Adams
Oshiomhole.
Information made available to journalists
in Benin City Wednesday indicated that the
trial of the suspects will set the stage for
the formal response of the court to the
report of the Director of Public Prosecution
(DPP) which exonerated human rights
activist and Executive Director, Africa
Network for Environment and Economic
Justice (ANEEJ), Reverend David Ugolor in
the murder saga.
Ugolor was earlier detained by the police
on allegation of complicity in the murder
of Oyerinde before he was set free.
The case, which will commence by 9.00
am, is expected to attract a cross-section
of civil society groups, human rights
activists, legal luminaries and journalists,
who have been following the case that has
caught global attention.
