Why Do We Have So Many Churches In Nigeria? by yhemini: 7:15am On Dec 09, 2012 |
The way churches spring up like new born babies everyday in this country is something to consider. I Have always wondered why we have so many Churches in Nigeria. Is it that our sin is too much or is it because there's so much money and that some people now see it as a "Money Making Venture."? I would like to know what your opinion i s on this issue. 1 Like |

Money. I have come across pastors who even hint at it being a money making venture. There are also spiritual hospitals where your generational curses can be removed for a fee or seed What about prophets and prophetesses? Why is everyone now a prophet ir prophetess? They also have very imgenious ways to make ppl part with their cash. 1 Like |

The reason: “There will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth.”—2 Timothy 4:3, 4. 2 Likes |

U see, most of these pastors have read so many books, grab the truth from these books and preach to the members what they need to hear; fears, lies and little bit of truth. |

The reason why they are so many churches in Nigeria is cos there r so many ignorant people in the country...that's the simple explanation. Even atheist nations prosper more than Nigeria that has a church on every street...there was a time they were two churches on my street. 5 Likes |

yhemini: The way churches spring up like new born babies everyday in this country is something to consider. I Have always wondered why we have so many Churches in Nigeria. Is it that our sin is too much or is it because there's so much money and that some people now see it as a "Money Making Venture."? I would like to know what your opinion i s on this issue. Good morning, First of all, note that I am a christian. I can never stop being a christian. I do not allow my christianity to be imposed on me by anyone, whether the person threatens me or not. I know for certain that we have many faake pastors around. I also know that there r some pastors who are sincere and try to do what God wants. In the light of these, I give my opinion below: We should understand that some persons see Christianity as an industry just like so many industries we have in the business world. Business men wants to invest in areas where the rate of return on investment is quite high. Sadly enough, the rate of return on investment in this industry (christianity) is not just high but also has the potential to give back one's investment and more in a relatively short time. It is therefore not surpising that there exist this mad rush into this "industry". Business men feed on the need of people. Where the need is high, profitability is highest, especially in an industry with a very inelastic demand. In basic economics, we know that for there to be a balance in any industry, the industry needs to reach a state of equilibrium i.e supply has to be equal to demand. Since the demand in the said "industry" is still ineslastic, the supply of these "business man" (pastors) will continue to rise. The rise of pastors (business men) implies the rise in churches (companies). Note that every businessman craves to own his or her own company. Which is the reason why, the present crop of businessmen (pastors) are not content to be in just one company (church) where the profit sharing is not equitable. Since they can get more profits by establishing their own companies (churches) considering the inelastic demand in this industry (Christianity). Thus, the proliferation of churches. Please note that Christianity is not an industry. Hence, we as Christians have a mandate to root out these business men from our midst. The threat from within far exceeds what is outside. I urge you as a christian to know whom you worship, know how you worship him, know how to discern the spirit and intent of people, especially when they come in God's name. For Christ himself warned us that not everyone who uses his name is of God. This sad trend will only continue as long as we want it to. Thank you! 8 Likes |
