I do not intend to question where and why any would choose to do his or her kidney transplant anywhere they choose, but somebody of OJB status who require donation to raise the required sum in my opinion is suppose to do the transplant here since we have competent hospital and capable specialists.

I don't see any reason why the kidney transplant shouldn't be done in Nigeria since we have several successful transplant that had been done here in places like University of Ilorin teaching hospital, university of Benin teaching hospital etc.

Secondly as widely reported, a university of ilorin student named Lukman babatunde who also had kidney damage require similar transplant like oJB and he is presently undergoing dialysis at the UITH while his friends are trying to raise funds for his transplant.

I personally interacted with the specialist at the UITH and i was made to understand that the required fund for kidney transplant is N4million naira with additional N1million for post transplant care.

So, i ask again, why travel abroad for kidney transplant when it can be done here? why N16million when N5million can do it?

Note pls, the UITH had done successful transplant which was widely acclaimed even in recent time.

let our leaders trust our hospitals with their lives before we do the same thing

The politician don't need donation to go abroad for their medication, my concern is if you have to seek for donation from Nigerians for the transplant, why can't you do the transplant here in Nigeria since we have competent hospitals?

u just have to understand that nigerians dont trust our medical institutions ,this might be as a results of previous experiences.
i believe public enlightenment and education will go a long way in addressing people fears about our medical institutions

Where are the competent doctors and equipments for such surgeries?....smhhh : .... Can't u remember what happend to Dagrin? And other pple whose lives have been wasted, through lack of equipment and proper processes necessary to have a successful surgery operation and also staying alive , even if there could be unforseen complications afterwards....

i believe nigerian doctors and surgeons are very very good .there are so many of them in trinidad and tobago,saudi arabia and other parts of the world.it is not the doctors ppl are afraid of but the working enviroment

I don't think medical surgeries of this complexicity could be done in Nigeria. It's too advance for our surgeons and moreover I don't think there is any hospital equipped for such surgery in Nigeria. If anyone thinks otherwise, please name one institution..

politicians dont need donation to go abroad because they are already stealing our money.

I think we don't trust our hospitals. Don't blame them much, expecially people who v bad experience in Nigerian hospitals.
Moreso, I think people ll not want to gamble with their lives, expecially with a case like kidney transplant.
But with time, Nigerians ll still appreciate their own hospitals.

So that when something goes wrong the doctors can tell his family to take heart it was God's will? not trying to downplay Nigerian doctors expertise in fact I think they are doing very well considering the state of our hospitals it must be very difficult for them but believe me the number of people who die from 'minor ailments' is disheartening and makes every one afraid

It has nothing to do with inferiority complex; it has everything to do with lack of infrastructure and training. You can still go abroad and be operated by African American doctors or even Nigerian doctors.

They have had the proper training, and the infrastructure, that is, equipment and good medicines, enables a successful surgery.
