Personally, I think her dress sense is average but a vast majority of others think she's fantastic fashion-wise. The Obamas' trip to Europe marked the president's debut on the world stage, but it's his wife who has been stealing tabloid headlines. The European reaction to the Obamas recalls the Kennedys' trip to Paris in 1961, when Jacqueline Kennedy wowed with her glamorous style and fluent French. The attention and reception the first lady received on that trip prompted the president to joke about his standing in the power couple. "I am the man who accompanies Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris," Kennedy said. Here's Mrs Obama waving to the crowd as she leaves Palais Rohan in Strasbourg, France, April 3, 2009.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama walk with Charge d'Affaires Richard LeBaron and his wife, Jean Foshee LeBaron, after disembarking from Marine One helicopter at Winfield House, the U.S. ambassador's residence in London, March 31, 2009. This is the first time in nearly 50 years (since Jacqueline Kennedy took a trip across the pond) that Europe had so widely anticipated a visit by a U.S. first lady. And Michelle Obama did not disappoint, earning the moniker "Mighty Michelle" during her visit to the U.K.

Michelle Obama proved her fashion prowess when she appeared on "The View" in June 2008. The $148 White House/Black Market Empire flower print dress she sported became a hit and some said it helped remake her image. The show's co-hosts praised her look, and the Donna Ricco-designed black-and-white outfit quickly sold out.

yet the Brits called Americans fat, what the hell is sarah Brown wearing? Terrible. Dont they sell Spanx in the UK All the other clothes of Michelle are ok but I really hate that 2nd one. the black with pink flowers she looks better in the A line gowns ie the ones that show her arms and the bottom part isnt all frilly, those big puffy skirts lay too much emphasis on her hips |
Re: Michelle Obama: Fashion Icon? by spikedcylinder: 7:59pm On Apr 08, 2009 |
Mrs Brown I guess is very conservative, any dash of bright colours and one might be calling an ambulance. I've always said Michelle should stick to simple, clean cuts. All those complicated dresses are very unflattering on her. I like the H&M one best. |

Re: Michelle Obama: Fashion Icon? by Sissy3(f): 2:00am On Apr 09, 2009 |
well i think some folks see her as a fashion icon because looking back at the previous first ladies excluding Jackie O, she is the more polished one, at least she changes things up and not always dwelling in pant and suit or skit and blouse suit. she is much younger and since many women can relate to her in terms of her age and dress sense they elevated her to fashion icon status. and she is not afraid to at least take a chance with her dressings. however, IMO, sometimes i like what she wears and sometimes i don't. just like everyone she has her hits and misses. as for being fashion icon, I'm still yet to see that, maybe it is just too early to rush to conclusion she still has more years to showcase her wardrobe . so there is still room for evaluation. |

'Michelle Obama more popular than Barack Obama' Washington, April 03: Barack Obama might be touted as the most powerful man in the world, but when it comes to popularity, the US President’s wife Michelle pips him to land the top spot, says a new survey. In the new survey by Gallup, the First Lady beats her husband with a 72 percent favourable rating, as against his 69 percent. “While the 3 percentage-point difference between the two favourable ratings is not statistically significant, Michelle Obama’s much lower unfavourable ratings compared with the president’s (17 percent vs. 28 percent) give her the clear edge in public favourability,” The Politico quoted the polling company as saying. Michelle, who campaigned for her husband months at a stretch in Iowa, was a favourite amongst women. Her much criticised directness and use of irony actually made her seem more authentic and easier to connect to for women in Iowa. Gallup noted that the First ladies often poll higher than their husbands. This “likely reflects that their role is far less controversial than that of the president, which often results in less-partisan ratings of the first lady,” Gallup noted.
