My Organic Poultry Project (broilers) by organicfoods(m): 7:45pm On Sep 30, 2016
In my extreme quest for organic revolution in Nigeria. I will be doing a powerful project on broilers. My aim is to :

1. Reduce the reliance on costly chicken vaccination by fortifying my broilers with powerful cheap naturally occurring herbs from nature.
2. Enhance feed conversion ratio using fermented conventional feeds to grow super size broilers within 3 months that will out perform conventional Farmer's result. Note: This revolution won't be total, but should prove a better cheap option to overtly reliance on drugs to produce broilers.

So far I ordered 50 broilers from Chi Farm and got delivery yesterday. At 220 per chicks. My investment begins with 11800 Naira. 800 for transportation.

I bought one bag of top feed broiler starter at 3210 Naira. 500 Naira for transportations.

I will be using lacto bascillus and Garlic extract. They both cost 4000. 2000 each per liter.

I have 51 birds... No mortality after the second day. I am serving chicks with fermented feed of lactos bascillus and Garlic extract in water through out.

In four days I will be introducing bamboo shoots to handle coccidiosis

So as usual I will be keeping my costs very low.

Edited.
NB: Marek's vaccination was given as a standard at the Hatchery. Apart from this nothing else will be given... You can follow me on the journey and watch how I depart from the norms with astonishing results

I was thinking of doing something similar come next year, but you have inspired me to go head on, please explain in details how to produce the lacto bacillus and garlic extract.

Eagerly waiting for your response.

I actually improvise with my brooding box, you will be amazed at what I used....Then I got an old retired kerosene Lantern back into active service, this lantern will be providing the necessary heat for my broilers in the coming weeks. I will elaborate on some of the ideas I intend to play with in my subsequent posts. So far so good, No mortality.

They will be getting a new home pretty soon by tomorrow. The computer case is just a make shift alternative to keep them very close together to maximize heat, it's pretty too small for them just after 2 days...Growing very fast. In getting the box, I spent 3,500 on the brooding box. I will be equipping it to make their new home very comfortable, trust me.

@Organic...i respect you before o, but now it has doubled, i am an intending farmer tho practicing but God forgive me i don't think i could make anything from my first guy as my farmer caretaker has finished off everything. but a crazy friend took a drastic approach this week (Resigning) to go full time agro come December, the only thing i can do for him is help him anyway i can. I am also still looking to venture better because you and pavore has made d whole process alot more simpler, i will be following keenly.

Jah bless

1. You don't brood with lantern; that lantern cannot supply enough heat to go round

2.Chances of those birds contracting a respiratory disease is high as a result if the lantern usage.

3.Your brooding space is quite small..They're broilers; they poop a lot, and they need some space as they grow quite fast

To completely go organic you need to compound your feed your self because most of these ready compound feed contains antibiotics

Thanks for the observation. You are absolutely right... Now they have enough space. I had one mortality already and I suspect the lantern. I was trying to get by using readily available material. Now the lantern will go on terminal leave shortly.

Yes I am aware the feed contains a lot of synthetic material like methionine, lysine that are used in animal feeds. I am also aware of the presence of arsenic compounds and Nitrofurans. I am actually going towards this direction, but first I should be able to handle the drug and vaccination aspect which is the first stage. Later on, I will be bold to go on compounding my own feed. Presently I tried fermenting the feeds to increase the growth of microorganism to break down the synthetic chemicals in them. But the chicks didn't find it palatable. I will switch back to this in two weeks when their intestine are well developed to handle it.

Great job sir. Well done! I admire your courage as this a bold step in the right direction. Other farmers tend to gain from this. If you take your biosecurity seriously, you could actually pull this off...I read somewhere that Christmas Melon (Tagiri) works well in the prevention of NCD amongst other diseases. Why not give it a shot?...Following this thread! Hehehehe...I think I have something on you.

I'm gon keep it my little secret tho. I'll give you tips every now and again.

Since I retired the lantern, surprisingly the chicks continues to grow stronger everyday without heat.

I got one weighting 113g already, his colleague looking up to see if he can have a go on my weighing machine too lol. Chicken are pretty intelligent.

Guess what got them very active. ..some worms from my vermiculture worked them real hard.

Now I introduced ginger garlic plus farmers fertilizer (sea weeds)
