Algeria Profile: FIFA World Cup™ finals history: Algeria have appeared at four FIFA World Cups, including Brazil 2014 where they reached the knockout stage for the first time – representing their greatest performance. Across the four tournaments, they have recorded a total of three victories, two of which came at Spain 1982, against West Germany (2-1) and Chile (3-2). Les Fennecs’ third success was recorded in Brazil, where they defeated Korea Republic 4-2, becoming the first African or Arab team to score four goals at the World Cup in the process. The team After impressing at Brazil 2014, the Algerians will now be very hopeful of qualifying for Russia 2018. To achieve that goal, they will expect the best from their core of players performing in major European leagues, such as Yacine Brahimi, Sofiane Feghouli, Islam Slimani, Nabil Bentaleb and Carl Medjani. The coach Vacant. The stat 3 – Algeria are the third Arab team to reach the Round of 16 at the World Cup, after Morocco at Mexico 1986 and Saudi Arabia at USA 1994. The former stars Rabah Madjer, Lakhdar Belloumi, Abdelhakim Serrar, Djamel Zidane, Rachid Mekhloufi, Moustapha Zitouni, Ali Fergani 2 Likes 2 Shares

Nigeria's Profile: Qualifying history After impressing on their way to the second round in each of their first two FIFA World Cup™ appearances, in 1994 and 1998, Nigeria struggled in the finals before again returning to the knockout rounds in 2014. In Brazil they beat fancied Bosnia and Herzegovina before showing well in narrow defeats to eventual finalists Argentina and France. But the most populous nation in Africa always has high expectations, and they have had their eye on a first-ever African spot in the semi-finals for some time. The team In Vincent Enyeama the Super Eagles have arguably the best African goalkeeper, but the veteran captain is not the only Nigerian player of an international caliber as his replacement Carl Ikeme has proved that he is a reliable shot stopper. Also other Players like John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Efe Ambrose have shown in Europe that they are capable of playing at the highest level. The success that the Nigerian youth teams are enjoying would also suggest that the seemingly never-ending stream of top class player will take the Super Eagles into a bright future. The coach Gernot Rohr . The stat 5 – The number of World Cup finals Nigeria have qualified for out of the last six events. The former stars Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Rashidi Yekini

Nigeria coach Rohr warns coach sack may fire up Algeria: Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has warned that the sensational dismissal of Serbian Milovan Rajevac could well work in favour of Algeria when they visit Uyo next month in continuation of the World Cup qualifiers. Player-power has forced Rajevac out in Algeria, who tackle Nigeria on November 12 in a crucial World Cup clash after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Cameroon. Nigeria top the qualifying group with three points ahead of favourites Algeria and Cameroon, who are on a point each. “This (sack) may be the motivation Algeria need to play against us,” warned the experienced Rohr, who led Nigeria to win 2-1 in Zambia at the weekend. “It will be difficult for a new coach to put together a team in three weeks for our match, but possibly the assistant coaches could manage it.” The Algeria Football Federation (FAF)have already announced that Rajevac assistants Nabil Neghiz and Yazid Mansouri are in temporary charge and will lead the team for next month’s trip to Nigeria. FAF president Mohamed Raouraou has admitted it will be impossible to name a permanent coach before next year’s AFCON in Gabon. 2 Likes 1 Share |

We don't desire a draw or less, what we want is another 3points, making it 6points from two games so far. Hopefully, the squad will be complete with Moses, Success, Ighalo and Balogun making their returns. I will like Ideye to start or later come into the game despite the glaring chance that he missed against Zambia. He may lack the goal scoring flair, but his teamwork is good, and he is also unselfish. We saw how he abetted Emenike to win the highest marksman in 2013 afcon tournament, and also how he assisted Iheanacho's goal against Zambia. Playing him alongside Iheanacho, Mikel, Iwobi and Moses will augment the teamwork. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Nigeria reached the World Cup finals for the first time ever when they drew 1-1 with Algeria in their final African qualifying match in Algiers on Friday October 8. The hard-earned point lifted the Nigerians above African champions Ivory Coast on goal difference in the second round group A standings. The Nigerians needed at least a draw to secure their place in the 1994 finals in the United States. Nigeria, fielding several professionals with European clubs, dominated much of the first half. In the 20th minute, Nigeria's leading scorer Rachidi Yekini found Finidi George with a perfectly weighted pass. George then put the ball past goalkeeper Hanniched to score. But in the second half, Yekini was kept in check and the Nigerians were forced on to the defensive. The Algerians hit the post twice, and goalkeeper Wilfred Agbonavbare was forced to gather the ball off the goal-line. But Agbonavbare was unable to keep out the Algerians in the 71st minute. Hamdani took possession of a loose ball and crossed to Zerrouki who headed it in to equalise. Nigeria have become the first of three African countries to qualify for the 1994 finals. On Sunday (October 10), the two remaining places will be decided. Cameroon and Zimbabwe meet for the Group C berth, while Morocco and Zambia play for the Group B berth. Teams: Nigeria – Wilfred Agbonavbare, Stephen Keshi, Austin Eguavoen, Uche Okechukwu, Issac Semitoje, Nduka Ugbade, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Thompson Oliha , Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amunike (Samson Siasia) Algeria - Hanniched, Hamdani, Benhamlet, Amrouche, Ait Abderrahmane, Cherif el Ouazani, Hadj Adlane, Zerrouki (Zekri), Lazzizi, Tasfaout Abdelhafid, Rahem Group A: GP W D L GF GA Pts x- Nigeria 4 2 1 1 10 5 5 Ivory Coast 4 2 1 1 5 6 5 Algeria 4 0 2 2 3 7 2 USA 1994 World Cup Qualified http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist//RTV/1993/10/08/604300554/ 1 Like
