Fellow Corolla S Owners,

Please i need your inputs on the following subjects;

1) I'm about buying new tyres for my 2004 corolla S but i'm considering the idea of Changing my stock (195/65R15) tyres to 205/65R15 so i can have some ground clearance (considering where i'm staying). i need to know if i'll have any issues with the new tyre size. N/B: I'm not running on stock wheels (pic attached).

2) Please who has details on where i can get this complete 05-07 corolla Sport bumper(with the left and right sport bumper lip) and headlights (Picture attached).

If you're currently running on 205/65R15 with my kind of wheels on a corolla S, i'll love to see how well it fits on the vehicle.

Thanks in Advance...

Changing to 205/65R15 from 195/65R15 will change your ground clearance even by 13mm.
If 195 is your stock, maintain it. If you really need ground clearance then 195/ 70 R15 will give you what you need. 185, 195, 205, 215, 225 etc are width of the tire, the height is 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80 etc.changing the rim will add to your ground clearance just a very little bit, say 195/60R16. Each time you change the rim to a higher one reduce the height of the tire by 5 to keep the size close to stock.

@ OP, as stated by adanny01, changing from 195 to 205 will not help with the ground clearance

Update: I stand corrected as I did not think through. Changing from 195 to 205 will help in ground clearance as well as going from say 70 to 75 (if that's possible)

My candid advice, before vehicles are manufactured there is a design and before the design becomes accepted and used for production, a lot of consideration is put in place from aerodynamics of design to material selection e.t .c this also includes selecting the right tire for the vehicle. Modifying what has been put in place puts you the user of that vehicle at risk, for instance the tire selection you though does not in anyway gives any clearance from what it was before but only makes it more stable, for those suggesting bigger tires, when you install bigger tires u reduce the space between the tire and its wheel base. Mind you a car is man made and parts are subject to tear and wear, imagine a situation where you have large tires and u driving on a highway with bad bushing on your arms upper n lower possibly and then you hit a bump and your front wheel drift a bit maybe forward or backward but due to the fact you have large tires than normal the tires scratches the fender or other surrounding metal part, your tire could go off or cause your vehicle to skid and you loose control the rest is history. Don't use large or too small tires, just use the right one. Thanks.

I use the same car. I bought it Tokunbo and it was imported from US. The car came with 205/55 R16 tyres from US and I have not had any issue for like two years I have been using it despite the fact that the tyre specification for the car is different.

It will increase the ground clearance. Lets do the calculations

For the 195/65R15, the height is 65% of 195, that is 126.75mm

For the 205/65R15, the height is 65% of 205, that is 133.25mm

The difference in height is 133.25mm - 126.75mm = 6.5mm

Since he's using the same size for the rims, then the ground clearance will only increase by 6.5mm

But make sure there is enough room for the tyres to be installed.

And note that car will move faster than the current speedometer reading.

Thank you very much for your input... evidently a problem shared is half solved... i like the mathematical analysis @abes

i shared this concern in another forum and i got a link to a site that does tire size comparison. 205/65R15 is sure higher than 195/65R15 though by a very small margin... (here's a screenshot of what i had online).

However, in reality it could be different...
Since i have people here who own my same kind of vehicle and run on 205/65R15 without issues, i think I'll go with the 205/65R15 then i'll also share my experience...

Any Tyre type you might recommend? (Maxxis on my mind... 25k each down here #South).

That is a solid post and I should have remembered I went from a 205 to 215 on a vehicle before slightly increasing ground clearance. I am not sure the overall wheel and steering clearance will allow this but 205/70R15 will result in more ground clearance

Bros, its a sport bro, why do u want high ground clearance? You will only compromise the handling at higher speeds due to turbulent air flow under the vehicle.

Maybe you can trade it for a Rav4 u na chairman bros

It actually will give him abt 1-1.5 inch. My experience was however with a 2009 camry. Changed from 215/60/R16 to 225/60/R16. My exhaust noticeably stopped hitting against road bumps in my area then.

I think you are wrong. The 65 is actually aspect ratio that depends on the width and its just the height. So a 65 on 205 will be higher than 65 on 175.

Read more here.
https://www.tigertyres.co.uk/tyre-info/aspect-ratios/

Put a 235 60 beside a 205 60 and you see that 235 60 is higher.

Hi Nairalanders, Can I change my Toyota Camry 2004 LE 2.4L tyres from 205/65/R15 to 195/65/R15? I do not have problem with Ground clearance as I 've got a taller shock absorber for that; just to mention. I just want to change to a narrower one. Any major implication ?

No implication, Tyre is just slimmer or narrower.

If i were you, i won't increase the width. You need more height not width.

First pix is 195 65/R15 vs 195 70/R15
18mm height increase
0mm width increase

Second pix is 195 65/R15 vs 205 65/R15
13mm height increase
10mm width increase

1st gives you height increase which is more ground clearance and less high speed stability while
2nd gives you width which is more stability and a little more ground clearance but you risk damage to either tire, body or sand protectors with tire making contact with wheel arch.

I will go with 195 70/R15

Hello Guys, I am thinking of changing my 2005 Camry tyres from 205/65 r15 to 205/70 r15. The aim is mainly to achieve a higher ground clearance. Is this recommended or is there a better alternative? Thanks for the response.

Hey guys,
My car follow come tyre from the US is 195/60R15. So each time I pass through a bumpy road my car chassis scratch thr ground.
So, I want to replace thr 4 Tyres to achieve a more ground clearance.

I am contemplating choosing between 195/70R15 and 205/70R15. Which one will be best suited for 2005 corrolla LE, and give me exactly what I want, more ground clearance, without any negative implication.
