Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has approved N566 million for the completion of 189 Juma’at and daily prayer mosques as well as Islamiyya schools inherited from the previous government.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mani Maishinku Katami, disclosed this at the flag-off of the 2017 Zakkat and endowment distribution and special assistance to orphans held in Illela Local Government Area of the state, adding that his ministry had provided grants to some Islamic organizations and community development associations to the tune of N805 million from 2015 to date.

Also speaking, the acting Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakkat Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki said that 18,200 orphans and the needy from across the 85 districts of the state would be provided with cloths, 50kg of rice, meat and cash because of the fasting and Sallah celebration.

In his speech, the Regional Governor of Koni in Niger Republic underscored the significance of feeding the needy in the holy month of Ramadan.

Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar commended Governor Tambuwal for sustaining the gesture and hailed the acting chairman of the Commission for his accountability.

While flagging off the distribution, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal reiterated his government’s commitment towards improving the living standard of the people.

This is our problem... the more reason why the shout for re-structure is at the roof...

Why would other regions including the north split their wealth to enable a state populace for better and basic amenities end up being used to build mosque?

Religious houses should be built from donations and individual preference not monies donated by people of different diverse groups whom may or may not believe in the purpose its being used for..

Sokoto generated N4.5billion approx in 2016.. and using approx N600m to build mosque?

The moment we begin to factor empathy into our thoughts, we then have begun on the right path.

Islamiyya schools in the north encourages the Almajiri system which are ready tools for religious violence and boko haram. So why invest in such? Why not invest in proper education that will enhance total growth of the state and nation.

There is need for us as a nation to know when to draw the line between religion and growth of our Nation. Until then, the north will remain backward and will continue to the nation backward too.

but why do they beg too, I see people with two legs and two hands begging, they don't want to work, hoping that we would work and give them to eat, this doesn't happen in the south, 189 mosque for 500 million isn't bad but what money have they invested in other projects? At the end of the day the governor might use this for second term sef.
And people will believe he did something for the state.

Dubai, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain are not investing in Islam the way Northern Nigeria is investing in it. Those countries are investing in infrastructure and Technology.

Spitting on them won't make them to change so I'd advised you apologise for that rather calling them out and showing them comparison to other Islamic countries.



I've been attacked all through yesterday by them but i won't stop because as long as they practise a form of Islam that's not compatible with this changing times then i won't stop calling them out

They will rather build Mosque instead of building factories. SMH. This is one out of the many other reasons why I support the call for the dissolution of this country. It saddens me that I share the same passport with these primitive beings who are still stuck in the 6th Century

If state money, how exactly is this justifiable? Is government money used to build churches in Nigeria? If no, why is it being used to build mosques?

The money might be part of funds given by foreign development agencies. Ninety five percent of monetary aids in Nigeria that comes from USAID, UNFPA, UNDP, DFID, UNICEF, CIDA etc, goes to the North. And what do they do with all the money? Build more Mosque and Koranic centers !!

Gosh. Then that is even worse. I can see why many people in the West have been kicking against their countries giving aid to so-called poor African countries. Imagine what such money is being used for. Just imagine.

Develop and build:
- Schools? No.
- Industries? No
- Laboratories? No
- Purchase Meningitis vaccines? No

There is something very wrong with this country. Very very wrong. If this kind of thing is being done and no one sees what is wrong with it.

it just does not make sense. Why should Governors build Mosque and churches? Why should Governors-- some cannot pay their workers salary--continue to budget millons of Naira for Christian and Moslem pilgrims going to Jerusalem and Mecca from their respective state every year?

Kenya recently commissioned a Chinese built express Railway linking the Capital, Nairobi to the Port city of Mombasa. This Railway would further link up Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Burundi to the Indian Ocean. Why are we not embarking on grandiose project like this instead of wasting limited state funds on religious matters and other frivolities

One more example of incredibly absurd things that make young educated Nigerians give up and explore the option of skilled immigration to Canada and Australia. There's so much mind boggling ridiculousness that people just have to leave to maintain their sanity.

Nigeria hardly contributes anything positive to the lives of her youth. The previous generations have left us a legacy of shame, and taught the vast majority of young people that it's okay to do shameful things. What a pity.
