Lagos Assembly accepts court’s order on Fashola’s probe

The leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly said Thursday it would abide by a court verdict restraining it from continuing its ongoing investigation of alleged financial recklessness levelled against Governor Babatunde Fashola by a group, True Face of Lagos, which was published in the media.
Speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, stated this on Thursday when lawyer to Richard Akinola, who instituted the suit against the House, Bamidele Aturu, visited the Assembly complex to deliver the court’s order. But this was not without a mild drama as armed policemen within the complex held Bamidele hostage for few moments.

The state High Court sitting in Ikorodu and presided over by Habeeb Abiru had on Wednesday ordered the House of Assembly to stay action on the probe following an exparte motion brought to it by Richard Akinola, a press freedom fighter and Bamidele Aturu, his lawyer.
