Capnd143 : News from defense review by brig.GENERAL ibrahim Atahiru said nigeria just received 35 desert terrain vehicles and is currently undergoing pre-combat modification before being sent to Mali, Atahiru also said the have place others for 40 MRAPS for mali mission, bt i dont knw the exact specification . Any body has any Idea? yes the new army vehicles purchase story is in this day newpapers online today. weblink below : http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/army-procures-35-desert-terrain-vehicles-for-mali-war-efforts/142034/ that is the first and the last time you will get any information on that story from nigerian army, and no details of the desert terrain vehicles, too much secretive. nigerian military buys many weapons and nigerians are not informed of details, then we have to be searching online hoping to find details and photos of our own weapons bought with our own money. as at now nobody can fully track all nigerian military weapons being purchased at a fast rate now, previously ordered weapons are pouring into nigerian armoury now, and new weapon orders are being made almost every month. nigeria is heavily spending on new and sophisticated weapons from all over the world. the nation is in a state of war |

. ...........Best Fast Attack Sea Power In Africa, Nigerian Navy Gun-Missile Super Boats......... Nigerian Navy has the largest, most modern and most powerful force of naval sea, river, coast, swamp, lagoon, and creek water vessels/boats in the whole of Africa, superior to Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, and all other rivals in shallow waters combat power. About 300 fast attack/assault sea/river vessels/boats of various sizes 10m to 60m are in service with the Nigeria Navy for this type of naval combat. About 250 of those vessels/boats are brand new latest ultra-modern technology and purchased between years 2007 and 2012, they make nigerian navy rank among the top 10 largest and most modern small to medium fast naval combat vessel navies in the whole world. Only Nigerian Navy has stealth and missile armed fast attack sea crafts in Africa, with 4 brand new eagle class vessels purchased from singapore but built in Australia with the best stealth technology in the world today. No African navy can dare to challenge the great Nigerian Navy to sea, river, coast, swamp, lagoon or creek water battle, any such challenger will be made to sink to the bottom of the waters for ever. http://beegeagle./2012/08/21/the-nigerian-militarys-unknown-jumbo-haul-of-river-gunboats/ View photos of these un-beatable force of the Nigerian Navy below.

. ............Nigeria develops unmanned coastal capability...................................... Jane's Defence Weekly (27 April, 2008) Nigeria is developing a national coastal defence alignment based mainly on unmanned platforms. Under a USD260 million contract signed in March, Israeli Aeronautics Defense Systems will design and build the naval array, providing manned and unmanned naval and aerial systems, coastal radars and command-and-control centers. This structure will cover all of Nigeria's 853 km coastline and will be designed to protect its territorial waters and the offshore oil platforms in the Niger River delta. To manage the project, the Nigerian government has established a special office that will be linked to the Nigerian Navy, Coast Guard and Ministry of Transportation. The array will be based on Aeronautics' Aerostar tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the Seastar unmanned surface vehicle (USV). Three Aerostar systems will be provided, each including 3 to 6 platforms, and 3 Seastar systems, including several USVs. Both systems are controlled through Aeronautics' Unmanned Multi-Application System terminal and software, which provide air vehicle and payload control and enable the integration of different sensors. The Aerostar, with 14 hours operational endurance, is equipped with Controp's Dual-Sensor Stabilized Payload DSP-1, providing day/night surveillance coverage. The 11 m-long Seastar USV provides a mission range of 350 nautical miles and can carry payloads up to 2,500 kg. It could be equipped with day/night sensors, electronic surveillance measures, electronic intelligence/communications sensors, sonar and a stabilized gun system. Together they will comprise an unmanned formation of maritime surveillance and response The alignment will be complemented with two manned maritime patrol aircraft, equipped with an Inverted Synthetic Aperture Radar. Under the terms of the contract, 10 naval radar stations will be built along the coastline. Aeronautics will set up two command-and-control centres at the Nigerian Navy's Western Command in Apapa, Lagos, and at the Eastern Command in Calabar. A national command-and-control centre will be established at navy headquarters in Ojo, Lagos. All centers will receive real-time surveillance information from the various platforms and could control the unmanned missions. In addition to the new surveillance alignment, the Nigerian Navy will establish three forward operating bases in the delta region and has procured six Defender-class fast response boats from SAFE Boats International. For Aeronautics, the new contract marks substantial growth. " :thumb: It is one of the largest projects in the world in the area of unmanned systems," a spokesperson for Aeronautics told Jane's. "The contract grants the company an unshakable status as a global leader in this area." Located in Yavne, Israel, privately-owned Aeronautics is competing against Israel's two leading UAV developers: Israel Aircraft Industries and Elbit Systems. With Aerostar sales to eight countries, among them the US, Greece, Angolaand Georgia, and with its Orbiter mini-UAV sold to three international customers, the company appears to be taking a considerable share of the growing international UAV market. The planes are to effectively cover a field of view the size of France whilst conducting search-and-resecue operations while it can detect oil slicks over an area equal in size to Burkina Faso,Ghana and Ivory Coast put together. The configuration of these planes, as obtained from an online description, suggests that they will be coming with hatches in the belly which can be opened. This means they may also be used for dropping supplies, launching AeroStar UAVs and for paratroop drops. "The ATR 42 Surveyor, also known as the ATR 42 MP, is a derivative of proven ATR 42 commercial aircraft developed to conduct maritime patrol missions and coastal surveillance. It can load the wide spectrum of equipment required to conduct that kind of missions such as radar, FLIR, TV camera, Electronic Support Measures (ESM), Communications and Navigation systems. In addition, bubble panoramic windows have been provided to the Surveyor for optimal visual observation of the environment. The ATR 42 Surveyor can remain on station for up to 8 hours at 200 nautical miles from its base airfield" *Maritime surveillance Patrolling Time up to 8 hours (mission performed at 200 nm from operating base) *Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Patrol Patrolling Time up to 6 hours (mission performed at 200 nm from operating base) *Search and Rescue- Search Area up to 104,000 sq. The helicopter is fitted with a wide range of weapon systems to suit the mission and operational requirements of the country's forces. The AS 555SN is used for shipborne missions operating from ships above 650t. The 12 helicopters are all equipped for anti-submarine warfare and over the horizon (OTH) targeting. The 12 helicopters can carry a lightweight homing torpedo. A chin-mounted Telephonics RDR-1500B X-band, 360° digital colour radar is used for search and surveillance. The radar also provides weather avoidance, beacon transponder location, and waypoint navigation display.

Henry120: You think everyone is a liar like some of ur foolish boys here. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denel_Dynamics_Umbani Now there's your source and if you say nigeria is 3 years behind how come there's no developments of such precision weapon systems that's build specifically for targeting infantry/bunkers. Until such systems are developed by other african nations (not RPG's, APV's and a few licensed small arms) I won't take them serious as world class arms manufacturers period. |

The A400M which SAAF should've taken hold of by early 2011 but was delayed due to BAE and Airbus development problem will be available to the SAAF by January 2014, but SA defense minister wants the contract to be renegotiated because of cost overruns, before going ahead with the acquisition of 12 new airlift giants. What's even more welcoming is the deal between SA's holy-state-owned Denel Aerospace and Airbus deal that would allow DAE to manufactures two major work packages on the A400M, the Wing-To-Fuselage and the top shells which forms part of the aircrafts mainframe. This development is another confidence booster to SA's world class Aerospace industry and would only boost DENEL's turnaround 2014 strategy even further. http://southafrica.info/business/trade/export/denel-180912.htm

Aguagust you have a serious problem really, I don't know what will cure you. AndrewZA was just making an innocent comment about SA recce training American Army ranger about bush craft. I don't know what does Nigerian Special forces training with Americans, Indians, etc has to do with that statement. Beside Nigerian Special Forces are still very young, hence they require a lot of experience from the likes of Israel, America et al. SA recces have such a mass experience, that's why the Americans still respect them and regard them as masters of Bush craft. Hopefully, this they received from Bushmen (Khoisans), who are still the core elements of our Army. |

I looked it up at the manufactors website. No where did I see missils mentioned. The seastar has a platform is to small to carry any form of anti ship missil unless you use AGM in the anti ship role. And they are a waist on the intended target of this veseal. Pirats, rebels and crimnal scum. A 12.7 will shred any thing it will go against so I don't think it carrys missiels. Stop saying ever nigerian wepaon sytem has missiels. That like me say that SAAF gripen are cerrying anti ship cruise missiels just because they do in some other countries. Yous comon sense and think with your brain not your heart. If it NN did mount missiels on it they are avtualy waisting nigerias limted budget on uneasry sytems. On a related note SAN may not operate unmand surface ships(although KND dose have a desgine the navy has no need) we do operate unmand mini subs for anit mine operations and there a plan to maybe get a unmanded survace veasel with a sonar for anti mine opertions. |

andrewza, dont waste my time, i dont know the kind of english language they teach you in south african schools. you dont limit the interpretation of various kinds of payload/weapons, it is an open ended statement, google the english meaning. dont wait for every website to write every information about weapons for you like a 3 year old boy. same way you agrue about american navy stealth warships with various types of changeable payload weapons modules, you just never learn and improve your thinking skills. the whole worlds of science and technology cannot be limited to what andrewza thinks or knows. i never said all nigerian navy vessels carry missiles, but many do. did i say defender class boat carries missile ? dont misquote me and dont put words in my mouth, i am not here on trial in a court of law. i am just doing the little my time will allow. i am not here to write a full text book of weapons. there are small warhead missiles carried by israeli drones the whole world knows and we all see it fired on TV. i never said anti-ship missile, there are small boats on sea that can be quickly hit by a small warhead missile similar to what air drones fire on land vehicles. use your head to think outside the box and dont be locked up in a cage. the nigerian sea drone carries 2,500kg of payload and itself weighs 6,000kg so you think that is small ? please dont waste my time i wont answer baby questions from baby kind of thinking again. sorry no insult intended sir. |
