TOP MOST LOVED MUSICIANS IN NIGERIA AND THEIR HISTORY

To get to the heart of some people, you need music to sooth them and over the years these stars in Nigeria hasn’t failed in the delivery of good music. I will be writing about them based on first and obviously by their names (not that there is no specific order based on their popularity), their age and month of birth, their state of origin, and finally how they started and grew to what they have become now.

Without wasting any more time, let me begin with the list, I hope you have a good time reading about your favorite stars.


WIZKID

Don’t think I’m biased because I started with wizkid, he is like my number one guy, it just my choice though and so many other people choices too. Athough he started at a very young age, but there is still a lot to talk about him.


ACTUAL NAME: Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun


AGE: currently, wizzy baby is 28 years old and was born on the 16th of July 1990.


STATE OF ORIGIN: He is a native of Lagos State, Surulere to be precise, no wonder Lagos people love him so much.


EDUCATION: He dropped out of school (Lead City University) at his 200 level when he saw that balancing school and music was not working out for him. There were rumors that he had a CGPA of 0.91, don’t tell anybody I told you this oo.


HOW HE STARTED: The journey of a thousand mile they say always start with a step. Here is how wizzy baby grew to daddy yo. Most of us in our 20s still feel we are too young, but wizkid started recording songs at the age of 11 where he released some tracks with some of his church members (the Glorious Five is what they were called then), pretty interesting right? Banky W got so interested in this young man and saw that his future was really bright and signed him to his record label ‘EMPIRE MATES ENTERTAINMENT’ in the year 2009. His hit song ‘Holla at Your Boy’ brought him into limelight in the year 2010. If I was to estimate it then, I would say over 60% of Nigerians who listens to music were into that song then, I wasn’t exempted though.

He started growing and started thinking to himself that how can I move from local to international, the next thing gbam! In 2016, he had his collaboration with the world wide known Rapper Drake in their song “One Dance”. He is a young father of three (3) (Boluwatife, Ayodeji, and Zion) with each having their own mamas (daddy yo gidi gon).


DAVIDO

He is popularly known as the ‘omo baba olowo’ which means child of a rich man in English. Some believes he solely depends on his father’s money, there is more to the story than that. I know this is not necessary, but let me chip it in a bit (it is like I am looking for trouble oo), some know that he is looking for a sister oo (I don too talk). Let me go straight into it, I don’t want wahala now.



ACTUAL NAME: DAVID ADEDEJI ADELEKE (Davido was coined from the David in his name).


AGE: He was born in NOVEMBER 21ST, 1992 (26 Years).


STATE OF ORIGIN: although he was born in Atlanta, Georgia, USA which automatically makes him a US citizen, but his parent is from Osun State, I don’t need to talk much, so many people know his uncle (the politician that dances).


EDUCATION: He started first by studying Business Administration at Oakland university, where he dropped out after some time. When he came back to Nigeria, he studied at Babcock University where he finished with a 2:1 (second class upper).


HOW HE STARTED: let me still focus a bit first more on his education, you know I wrote initially that he started at Oakland University, well, yes that is true, although he dropped out because he was mixing both school and music together which made him had really bad grades then. After dropping out, he moved to London where he focused more on his music career. Later on he moved back to Nigeria and his father insisted that he go to school, so he enrolled for Babcock University to honor his father’s request where he graduated with a second class upper result (that caused a lot of uproar though).

Davido did not start from a poor background like most of his peers do (he didn’t start from the bottom but he is there – some drake moves) rather his father gave him some money to build up his music career to the highest it can ever be. But he also worked his way up to the top, I am sure even without his father’s money, he would still be great.

He came fully into limelight in 2011 when he released the hit song “OMO BABA OLOWO” and after that recognition, he started releasing more and more songs. He has also gone international by collaborating with stars like sakordie, Mi Casa, he plans on also collaborating with meek mill and Rick Ross. He has also won numerous awards such as the MOBO Awards, he was also the first African music artist to win the BET Award.

There are so many things to be said about the DMW Boss (His Record Label), but let us give space for the remaining artists.


TIWA SAVAGE

She is on a protein diet, slay mamas eh keep quiet. Nobody messes with her boo (you know who), so let me “robo ske ske robo ske ske” further. A lot can be said about this extremely beautiful Yoruba woman, mummy tiwa, I look forward to meeting her soon, I can describe her with 3s, nobody should judge me o, SMOKING, SEXY, SWEET.


ACTUAL NAME: TIWA SAVAGE- BALOGUN


AGE: she is currently 38 years old and born on the 5th of February 1980.


STATE OF ORIGIN: Ikeja, Lagos State.


EDUCATION: she had a really good educational background, she studied in both University of Kent (Business Administration) and Berkle College of Music (Which means she had a good background of music).


HOW TIWA STARTED: Unlike Wizkid and Davido, Tiwa’s musical did not start at a young age. Her family moved to London when she was 11 years Old, at a later point in her life, she enrolled into Berklee Musical School where she got a degree in professional music at the age of 27.

Not everyone knew that in the year 2006, Tiwa performed at the popular X-Factor (UK Edition) where she got to the final stage (the last 24). She is a song writer, producer, host. She has been signed to so many deals one of which is Sony in 2009 and has received numerous music awards including MTV Awards.

She is a mother of one after she got married to Tunji Balogun in the year 2013, right now they are not together anymore though.


TUFACE

A whole lot can be said about this star Tubaba, as he is one of the frontlines that took Nigerian music to a whole new realm, “You are my African Queen” rings a bell in everyone’s head, even some daddies and mummies sing it, but how did his career start? Don’t be in a haste, lets first see his details first..lol


ACTUAL NAME: INNOCENT UJAH IDIBIA


AGE: He is currently 42 Years, born on the 18th of September, 1975.


SPOUSE: I just had to include this because this two no dey leave each other side at all, she is his African queen. He is happily married to Annie Idibia.


STATE OF ORIGIN: Born in Jos, Plateau State. but his major state of Origin is Benue State (Idoma).


EDUCATION: He dropped out of school (seems this is a trend among most of them), but as at 2016, it was told that he got an honorary master’s degree of Art from Igbinedion University.


HOW HE STARTED: Along the way had some hitches, but Tubaba remains one of the greatest stars in the music industry that Nigeria is blessed to have. Let’s do a quick goo goo gaga shuffle and see if Amaka really disappointed him. At an early stage in his life, he moved to Lagos where he started recording with the Rapper Blacface and Faze as a group before they finally separated as so many big groups do later in their careers.

In 2006, he released his song “African Queen” which skyrocketed his fame so high as he gained international recognition from it, it was used as the soundtrack for the movie “phat girls”. Although at a point in his life, he had baby mamas issues as he has 7 children from different mothers, but that is all in the past now.

Tuface has won several awards for his songs, did I mention too that he is a philanthropist, yes he is.


PSQUARE (SEPERATED NOW: YEARS ACTIVE 2003-2017)

It all looked like stage play and film trick then when psquare wanted to separate, but well, now we are kinda used to it. It is now looking like they are upcoming musicians now that they are single entities, but together then, Psquare were unstoppable.


ACTUAL NAMES: Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye (Identical twins).


AGE: Both are 36 Years Old, born on the 18th of November, 1981 (In Jos, Plateau State).


STATE OF ORIGIN: They are indigenes of Ifite Dunu, Anambra State, Nigeria.


EDUCATION: They started their secondary school education at St. murumba secondary school and applied to the University of Abuja.



HOW THEY STARTED: Psquare were not only singers, they were also good dancers too as Usher is. After their parents relocated to Jos, Nigeria they enrolled into St. Murumba secondary school where they joined the school’s drama and music group, it was from there their burning desire for music started to really burn. Before the twins separated, they had a really big mansion to their names and both of them are happily married now.
