Women's World Cup Draw: One day to go

(FIFA.com)
07 Dec 2018

The year 2018 may be drawing to a close, but one of its most exciting moments is still to come: the Draw for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ will be held on Saturday 8 December 2018! Anticipation is growing among not just the participating teams but also fans from all over the world. Football lovers cannot wait to find out who their country has been drawn against, and in which cities they will be able to watch the matches.

To help the time pass more quickly, and to whet your appetite even more, FIFA.com has started its countdown to the draw. Every day, we are offering a statistic or a piece of information linked to the biggest event in women’s football.

The moment of truth is nearly upon us: only one day to go!

In one day’s time, destiny will have spoken. The players from the qualified teams are just one day away from knowing the identity of their group opponents, before embarking on six months of intense preparation in order to be in the best shape possible for the start of the tournament on 7 June next year. One, as in the event of a lifetime for certain players and teams – such as Chile, Jamaica, Scotland and South Africa – who have qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history. One, as in the sole victorious team that will raise the trophy aloft in Lyon after four weeks of hard competition next June and July.

Last but not least, there is one place you need to be on 8 December at 18:00 (local time) to ensure that you do not miss a moment of the Draw for France 2019™. Be sure to follow the event live at FIFA.com, and via all its digital platforms: the FIFA YouTube channel and our Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Draw pots confirmed by latest Women’s Ranking

07 Dec 2018

The final FIFA Women’s World Cup™ qualifiers have made their mark on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s Ranking ahead of Saturday’s France 2019 Draw.

Continental championships in Asia, Oceania, North, Central America and the Caribbean, plus play-off matches in Europe and the Americas, have applied the finishing touches to the pot allocation for the 24 World Cup-bound nations.

USA will go into that Draw as Ranking leaders after strengthening their hold on top spot, while hosts France (3rd, up 1) have swapped places with England (4th, down 1). The Netherlands (7th, up 3) are the top 20’s biggest climbers, having made ground - and reached a record points total - on the back of impressive play-off victories over both Denmark (17th, down 1) and Switzerland (18th, unchanged).

Further down the Ranking, there were double-digit rises for both Jamaica (53rd, up 11) and Panama (54th, up 12), who reached their highest-ever positions in the wake of storming to the CONCACAF Women’s Championship semi-finals. The Jamaicans are now looking forward to their first Women’s World Cup Draw, and while Panama missed out after losing to Argentina (36th, up 1) in an intercontinental play-off, they do at least have the honour of being this month’s biggest climbers.

There was consolation, too, for two more nations who suffered near misses in World Cup qualifying. Fiji (72nd, up 9) soared on the back of their run to their OFC Women's Nations Cup final, while Zambia (114th, up 2) collected this month’s highest points total (66) after causing upsets against Equatorial Guinea (70th, down 16) and South Africa (48th, up 2) in the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia would have climbed further still but for an influx of ten new teams, taking the total number to 152 – a new record for the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s Ranking.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on 29 March 2019.

Whatever you do FIFA, please don't give us The USA!!!!!!

The USA in Women's football is akin to what Argentina is to Nigeria in Men's football... They are both annoying nemeses!!!

Look at Men's football... We were paired with Argentina in 1994, 2002, 2010, 2014 and again in 2018!!!!! And we lost all of those games!!! Haba!

Now in Women's football... FIFA paired us with the USA in 1999, in 2003, in 2007, and again in 2015!!!! And guess what? We lost all too!

So please FIFA, whatever you do, keep the USA far from us! We no want!

Almost Everytime, Nigeria and USA plsss never again!

This one they put naija and Argentina in the same pot, so we won't be meeting them in the group stage undecided

Thank God smiley

Uhmmm... First of all, none of those 3 teams you playfully paired with Cameroun are in pot 1. So that group cannot happen.

Second of all, Switzerland no dey WC. Same as Taiwan.

Further more, USA, Germany and France are among the six teams in pot 1. So yes, we could fall into any of their groups or maybe not... It could be Canada, Australia or England.

Also, Japan and the Netherlands are in Pot 2. Chances of falling into a group having either of them is 1/6 for each scenario.

In all, your point is noted... Nigeria is indeed likely to get the hardest group of the three African reps yet those other African teams would likely struggle to make it out of those seemingly easy groups.

Anyway, I'm really hoping we get a favorable draw. I really don't wanna see USA in our group. They are our kryptonite at women's world cups.

See ehn bruv... It would even be better if we could get Argentina in our group because Argentina is no force in women's soccer. We would thrash them with ease. But sadly, that cannot happen as they are in same pot with us.

I just hope they can give us Thailand or Scotland from Pot 3 grin
