Much Ado About G7 Invitation by Naptu2. There has been some controversy in recent days about the fact that Nigeria was not invited to the 2019 G7 summit in France. Some people have made a crazy and hilarious claim that all important African countries are invited to G7 summits and the fact that Nigeria was not invited shows that it is not an important country on the African continent. I still don't understand Nigerians' obsession with the G7 summit. I don't know citizens of any other African country that go crazy whenever a G7 summit is being held. Nigeria is not a member of the G7. The G7 is made up of countries with the 7 strongest economies in the world. The G7 decided to invite some developing countries to their meetings. These invitations are not a right, neither are they a determinant of which country is more important than the other. The G7 usually invite the immediate past chairman of the African Union (AU), the current chairman of the AU and the incoming chairman of the AU. Sometimes they invite one or two others that are chairmen of subregional organisations, but it's not a determinant of which country is the most important. The G7 invited Nigeria in 2017, but did not invite South Africa that year. Does that mean that South Africa is unimportant? List of countries that were invited to the 2017 G7 summit in Italy www.nairaland.com/attachments/10119505_2019082807_08_56_png23558bdbf2a89348ec3b1f3f26260f27 The only African country that the G7 invited to their meeting in 2016 was Chad. Does that mean that Chad is more important than Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria or South Africa?? List of countries that were invited to the 2016 G7 summit in Japan www.nairaland.com/attachments/10119551_2019082810_20_37_png57abff2848beaae1b0f88b66c48993d8 Again, South Africa, Egypt and Kenya were not invited to the 2015 G7 summit. Does that mean that these countries are not important?? List of countries that were invited to the 2015 G7 summit in Germany www.nairaland.com/attachments/10124937_2019082810_45_37_pngf25108459ce8225e0d1a9301ab34e404 The truth of the matter is that invitation to G7 summits is not a determinant of which country is important and which is not, but instead it is a reflection of the agenda of that particular summit. The host country sets the agenda and guest countries are usually invited based on that agenda. No African country was invited to the summit in 2012, 2013 and 2014 because issues affecting Africa were not on the agenda at those meetings. Like I said earlier, it's usually the immediate past chairman of the AU, the current chairman of the AU, the next chairman of the AU and chairmen or a few subregional groups that are invited. Rwanda was invited to the 2019 summit in its capacity as the former chair of the African Union, Egypt as the current chair, while South Africa was invited as the incoming chair. Senegal was invited as the current leader of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD), while Burkina Faso was also invited to the G7 Summit as the chair of G5 Sahel. Guest countries invited to the 2019 G7 summit in France www.nairaland.com/attachments/10124956_2019082903_25_31_png379e952163c703bf21802b7e4aa5b0ac Here is a list of AU chairmen since 2014. You can see that it's usually the chairmen of the AU that are invited. Chad was the only African country that was invited to the 2016 G7 summit because President Idriss Deby was the incoming chairman of the AU at that time and not because it was the most important African country. Then why is it that Nigeria did not merit any of the positions that qualifies them for the G7 9 Likes 1 Share |

Some people that have no sense will surely come out with a way to disagree with you. Nigeria was invited twice under this administration i wonder if they want him to be invited annually as if he is a member .I just tire for my people I swear ! 61 Likes 6 Shares |

wake up from your slumber op and demand good governance. .. The crumbs you are taking right now to defend the indefensible will not save you when bandits / herdsmen reach your door step.. Or when you are kidnapped along kaduna /Abuja express way.. Nigeria has lost and is still loosing international relevance & you choose to be blinded by the crumb falling off your masters table... You import sawdust as a nation and you want to be invited to g7? Wake up my brother wake up!! 20 Likes 3 Shares |

Reno understood the intellectual configuration of the average IPOB youths and most of their brains have been corroded with hate and even their university graduates most times are caught in the web of cluelessness. Firstly, it was Kanu propagating the news about a cloned 76 year old Jubril of Sudan and one wonders how almost 70% of the SE (IPOB) believed that absurd claim which defies normal human logic. Currently, the stupidity reached the highest height when some unscrupulous entities claimed Buhari was not in Japan and one will but wonder how low a people can go to with such magnitude of mental incapabilities. Little research on the prime minister of Japan social media page will relief the ignorant people that Buhari was truly in Japan coz the pics of all the invited presidents was on the prime minister’s page. Reno understood that most of his fan base are intellectually handicapped, and coz they have been re-born with a culture of first degree hate they will believe any absurd claim even if it’s from the devil. @OP, trying to educate these guys will just be like trying to beat a dead pig coz no matter how much you try they will always wallow in their self-created lies coz hatred is what fuels their passion. 46 Likes 9 Shares |

Henrywill247: Fountainofyouth: There are 52 countries in Africa! Nigeria has held those positions many times (Nigeria was invited to the summit in 2015 and 2017) and it is not the only country on the continent. Therefore it is not going to hold those positions all the time. Already, smaller countries accuse the big 4 (Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa) of trying to monopolise positions on the continent. Won't others also hold those positions? Was there anything wrong when South Africa did not hold those positions? Are we going to hold those positions all the time?? 31 Likes 7 Shares |

Whether he was invited or not is our problem. The question is where did the Presidency tell Nigerians he was going to? In fact where is he now? Is he hiding himself from the country that voted him, employed him & feeds him. 3 Likes 2 Shares |
