The hope of United to close the gap to the top four suffered a blow as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The home team fell behind early but fought back to take a 2-1 lead before Tyrone Mings levelled to give Dean Smith's share of the points.




Aston Villa took the lead in the 11th minute when captain Jack Grealish cut in from the left before curling a wonderful effort beyond David De Gea into the top corner.

Red Devils were far from their best during the first half but managed to get back on level turns thanks to an own goal from goalkeeper Tom Heaton just before the break.
