Female circumcision entails the partial or total removal of the external female vagina or other injury to the female genital organs. The practice is mostly carried out by traditional circumcisers who often play other central roles in communities such as child deliveries. What is still traumatising is that female circumcision is still being carried out by some traditions within and outside Nigeria. A recent experience of a friend was when, family members of his wife informed him that it is mandatory for his wife to be circumcised within the fifth to seventh month of pregnancy before delivery. With all the complications and psychological trauma associated with female circumcision, Is It Still Advisable to still continue with the Practice?
