To aid the mobility of students in all the unity schools in the country, the Federal Government has donated 104 Toyota buses to the 104 Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs). Donating the buses to principals of the schools in Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan urged them to make proper use of the buses.
Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Mr Kenneth Gbagi, Jonathan said the infrastructural development to revamp the schools was ongoing. The president said transportation became a major challenge in the FUCs with the restoration of the junior secondary component.

He said some of the schools hired commercial vehicles to convey their students out for important functions and that some even had to stop taking their students out for lack of functional vehicles, thereby hindering their interaction with other schools.

“I strongly believe that the purchase of these ‘2010 ETF Intervention’ buses will ameliorate the transportation problem of both the staff and students in the FUCs and enable the students to actively participate in extra-curricular activities,’’ he said.

“To ensure that the FUCs emerge as true models of what ideal secondary schools should be in Nigeria, all aspects of these colleges, ranging from the infrastructural facilities, implementation of the curriculum, completion of syllabus, management style to capability of the principles are currently under review,’’ he said.
