Doctors, Nurses suspend strike at FMC Abeokuta

Normal medical and health care services have resumed at the Federal Medical Centre at Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State following the suspension of an indefinite strike action declared by the centre's Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM)

The industrial action was to protest
the increasing cases of assault on the hospital health care givers by relations of patients.

A stayemement by the hospitals Public Relations Officer, Mr. Segun Orisajo, in furtherance to the series of meetings, the hospital management again on Thursday engaged the executives of the two unions where the management unfolded series of steps it had taken to forestall a repeat of the ugly incidents.

Apparently in satisfaction with the management's explanation and visible actions taken so far, the two unions at their congresses on Friday resolved to suspend the industrial action.

Reacting, the Acting Medical Director, Dr. Fidelis Ojeblenu hailed the unions' decision to resume duties, an action which he believed will facilitate further actions on the implementation of their demands.

He sympathized with the patients and users of the hospital for any inconveniences they might have encountered during the industrial action.

The Acting Medical Director however reiterated his appeal to the public to always refrain from acts of aggression against the hospital health workers.

He said the management is committed at all times to it's mandate of provision of quality healthcare services to the general public.
