Mass Resignation Of Software Engineers Disrupts Banks Digitisation Move by Thunday1005(m): 9:11am On Jul 25, 2022 |
The mass resignation of software engineers in most commercial banks across the country for greener’s pasture abroad, is currently threatening digitisation in the banking sector, LEADERSHIP can exclusively reveal. This is coming as a disincentive to the cashless banking initiative, where every banking transaction is expected to be digitised. However, the development is obstructing seamless operation of electronic and mobile banking systems across banks. It was learnt that about 500 software engineers have, since the beginning of this year, till now, secured better offers abroad, majorly in Canada and European countries where the emolument far outweighs what they are being paid in the Nigerian banking sector as they are paid in foreign currency at a time the nation’s Naira has seriously depreciated. Aside these 500 engineers, about 1,000 other staff have so far resigned their appointments in deposit money banks to pick up juicy offers abroad, even as there are indications that more engineers and bank staff will also join them in the months ahead as the nation’s economy becomes harsher and operating environment becomes unbearable. The development has disrupted the succession plan of many banks as more bank staff seek greener pastures outside the country. This mass exodus, investigation shows, was responsible for hitches in electronic and mobile banking operations of most banks in the country as they struggle to find suitable replacements for those that have left their services. For example, a major bank in the country, having noticed the trend of resignations, had earlier moved up its promotion process as a way to encourage the staff to remain. The bank had even increased its package for the workers and promoted 450 staff. Unfortunately, less than two weeks after the promotion, over 150 of those promoted resigned and left the country. With no bank spared the exodus of talents, the bank chief executives had resorted to finding a solution to the brain drain by coming together to train more staff for their depleting human resource Source: https://leadership.ng/mass-resignation-of-software-engineers-disrupts-banks-digitisation-move/ 45 Likes 6 Shares |

The fact remains that in life, after God, it's government. The government of a country greatly determines how a country is/will be. How a country is determines how comfortably we worship, we start business, we do business, we travel and have leisure, even the confidence to invest. In Myanmar, the Rohinginya Muslims don't worship easily, in China, the Buddhists of Tibet don't worship easily. In Nigeria can't easily start a business without one illegal payment or the other. Even on twitter the other day, there was a joke about throwing a stone in Hull University and it would be sure to hit a Nigerian ex-bank staff and many said it was true 179 Likes 16 Shares |

SavageBoy: Yes o, things are very hard in Ghana. Inflation rate is like twice ours. Serious unemployment and a host of economic issues. Their government is also very broke. I schooled in Ghana, when I gained admission a dollar was equal to a cedi. When I left, one dollar was equal to 5 cedis. Right now its 8 cedis to one dollar. 800 percent currency devaluation under 10 years. Africa is doomed even South Africa has serious economic problems at the moment and thats the best country in Africa 91 Likes 11 Shares |

SavageBoy: Africa is doomed for the next 100 years. We should have used globalization to build our economies. Countries are becoming protectionist now. Look at the trade wars between US and China. We don't even have the skills to build stuff. Our populations are largely uneducated and unskilled. There's no hope for Africa, just save yourself. 68 Likes 7 Shares |

SavageBoy: Rwanda is a very poor country. Despite all the hype, Togo is a much richer and better country than Rwanda. Rwanda's per capita income isn't even up to 600 USD. One of the ways to know a good country is to go on LinkedIn and search for jobs available in that country. Rwanda has less than 200 vacancies for the whole country. That's to tell you that there's nothing going on there economically. Even if you start a business who do you sell to? Most Rwandans don't make up to 500 USD in a whole year. The country is also landlocked. Their neighbours are also in a state of war and chaos. Avoid, Africa is doomed!!!! 92 Likes 11 Shares |

SavageBoy: When I was looking for my first dev job, I used to check how the job market in other African countries were and honestly aside South Africa, Nigeria has the highest number of vacancies out there. A lot of jobs we look down on here in Nigeria you won't even see to do in these countries. Africa is doomed. I knew this 2 years ago when I was job hunting. A whole African country will have only 80 jobs. A village in Canada will have 10000 new jobs lol. 89 Likes 11 Shares |

tensazangetsu20:I'm so sad It's been a while since I've had a genuine smile, this country issues had turned me into an unhappy person. Each time you talked about how this country can't get better back then and reasons people shouldn't give birth anymore, I'd always felt your words are over hyped until reality starts setting in few months ago. SavageBoy: As horrible as Nigeria is, it is easier getting a remote job as a dev in Nigeria than a dev in Rwanda, We abuse payment systems in Nigeria. These other countries have completely none, zero, zilch. You have no idea how completely a lot of African countries are till you travel. To even use an android smartphone is a luxury in a lot of these countries and thats where you wanna work remote. 60 Likes 10 Shares |

Maxxim: Lol trust me the worst is yet to come. A tinubu regime will make the present Buhari regime look like paradise. He has already said he will continue from where Buhari stopped . I tell people not to give birth because no matter how bad things are or things get you can always fend for yourself. If you don't even have food, you can go long periods as an adult without eating. The human body can go for as long as six months to a year on just water. Children will die though if they are subjected to such. If you know how many kids in Nigeria go to bed hungry, you would cry. That's food o I don't even wanna talk about education. A Nigerian child with regards to education is completely behind his peers from other parts of the globe. Only the rich in Nigeria can afford quality education now. Look at some of the high ranking schools and see how much they cost. You even suffer finish train your kids and make them responsible human beings where are they gonna work. A lot of Nigerian graudates have no work. Few people working are severely underpaid. A graduate earning 15k, 20k a month. A Nigerian life isn't worth it. It's a sin for anyone to create more after having lived through it and such people deserve the deepest parts of hell alongside our demonic politicians. 79 Likes 14 Shares |

LikeAking: They'd still leave. Did you read the article? The issue isn't paying them more, but them using the increased amount to japa. So, basically, you're paying these people to leave not stay as intended. Should Agbado win next year, Nigerian companies should be very prepared o cos there will be a massive exodus! Mr 50M yoots has kuku said "he'd continue from where Buhari stopped", and judging from how Buhari has performed, you know what that means. 57 Likes 8 Shares |

tensazangetsu20: It's obvious the man has nothing to offer and due to his greediness he won't step back, if care is not taken he won't be defeated unless great strategy and joint forces are been involved. There's no hope for the poor man, my niece school fee just passed 60k, that's the average school standard in my area, if you don't want your child to return home from school speaking curse words, been that her mum is a single mum whose legal husband ran away cause of responsibility. This always make me wonder what will be the situation if the kids are up to three. The country is doomed already. 35 Likes 5 Shares |

You probably have to meet a skilled developer to understand what god-like skill is and why these companies go through all the effort to come pick them here in Nigeria and pay them mad sums Its like saying we're losing our Consultants, but "we still have more intelligent med students" "The banks are not serious"? Let's even assume the USA exports talents can a Nigerian firm afford a junior USA developer. Maxxim: We most come in terms with reality. Mordenizatiin has its own consequences. Things will become very expensive. No govt can stop that. What is happening in Nigeria has regards the cost of living is almost natural. Why are we sending our kids to private schools, when we can make the govt schools work and pay less. The average Nigarian is the architect of his problems. List I forget, we all prefer forign goods to ours. 18 Likes 5 Shares |
