The NUC stated that the break is necessary to enable students and staff members to participate in the electoral process as voters and ad-hoc staff members. The commission also directed that no academic activities should take place during the period of the election break, which has been scheduled for February 14 to March 7, 2023.

Some students have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, stating that the break will further disrupt the academic calendar that has already been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Others have welcomed the decision, citing the importance of participating in the electoral process.

Parents and other stakeholders have also shared mixed reactions to the decision. Some have expressed concern that the extended break will have a negative impact on the education of students, while others have praised the move as a necessary step towards promoting civic responsibility and democratic participation.

The NUC's decision to extend the academic calendar and suspend academic activities during the election break is aimed at ensuring that students and staff members can fully participate in the electoral process without being hindered by academic obligations.

Before the break,'Universities must shut down so students can go and vote'. After announcement of the break 'the break is unnecessary cause it disrupts the academic calendar'. Humans are terrible sets of people to please. God forbid
