Does your clock moves anti-clockwisely or clockwisely?

Why would the question sure use the word "closed to"

Ever heard the word 12 midnight?
there's a key word 'to',a real easy but tricky

11:55pm is the answer. At 11:55 pm it’s just 5mins ‘to’ 12:00am (midnight), while 12:03am is enormously 23hrs,57mins ‘to’ 12:00am (midnight)

There is no 11:55pm in the answers the OP gave but only 11:55am

Re: Solve This Easy And Yet Tricky Question by LegitGuy22: 7:48am On Jun 24, 2023
If the OP meant "Closest to Midnight Clockwise" then it's 11:55am

If he meant "Closest to Midnight Clockwise or Anticlockwise" then it's 12:03

The OP should rephrase the question to make it clearer, thank you 👍👍

nothing trickish here, "To midnight" that's 11:55pm
Re: Solve This Easy And Yet Tricky Question by ebonytarki(m): 9:47am On Jun 24, 2023
But then it's says 11:55am. Not PM
Fuckyoumod:
Here is the trick, Time is always calculated in two ways.

After the hour and To (before the hour)

After 12:00 am - starts counting just a minute after 12:00am.
While To or before the hour of 12:00 am - This means that the time isn't 12:00 am yet.
Some minutes are still left before it hits 12:00 am.

Now, in this context the question is actually referring to - To (before) 12:00 am, Meaning it's not yet 12:00 am.

The only right answer to the time that is nearest to - (To) 12:00Amis 11: 55 pm.

I know a lot of people would go for 12:03am, Because is just 3 minutes apart. But they are wrong.

This is why it's a tricky question.

When I said 12hrs and 5mins before 12am, it means 11:55am has 5mins to 12pm and additional 12hrs before u arrive at midnight.

Because mid night is exactly 12:00am...consider the word "to"

The distance from 11:55am to 12:00am is the shortest
Compared to others moving in a clock wise direction

I nor go puff more drag of my weed again because if I try am I go arrive at another answer
you dey correct till you drag the gbana. 11.55am na 5mins to 12 for afternoon.

Aghaclem67:
If it is on 24 hourly counting that is when it becomes 00:03 am and 00:06 am. In this case it is on 12 hourly counting so 12:03 am 12:06 am stands to be correct. Therefore the closest time to midnight is 12:06 am.
In 12 hrs numbering, its still 00:03am.
The numbering changes from 1pm which is 13pm in 24hrs numbering. There is nothing like 12: 03am anywhere in the world.
We often make that mistake a lot and had since assumed its the correct thing to say.
Numbering hours correctly is so important it can send you to jail with simple errors like this.

"Closed to" does not mean you would reverse the directional movement of the clock. Since the question did not state you can go backwards, you don't have to import that into it.

11:50 am is the answer.
I would have chosed 11:55pm if it is an option, I understand the question as a time that actually comes before 12:00.
12:03, 12:06, 11:55, 11:50 all are in am, none is in pm and the question says closest time to (before) 12midnight
grin Closest TO doesn’t necessarily mean it must be a time b4 12am. It’s the time closest TO among the options. It’s 12.03am. No other option is better. 11.55am is totally silly grin

grin It’s not about Nigerian time. It’s maths. If you arrive at an event slated for 12am around 11.55am, folks will think you are lunatic. But if you come to the same event at 12.03, no one will blame you too much for late coming. There is no way the closest time to 12am can be 11.55am. It’s 12.03am

If I say I give 20k every midnight sharp, if you come at 12:03am, you would need to wait for 23hours 57minutes before you can get your 20k.

If you come at 11:55am, you will be waiting for just 12hours 5minutes!

Many people have missed flight bookings and some important TV/Sporting programs simply because of this am/pm misunderstanding. I guess that's why the British came up with the 24hours style clock. 12:03am would simply mean 00:03, 11:55am means 11:55 while midnight means 24:00 (No need to state AM/PM for 24hours style)

I hope this clarifies.
grin I want u to rephrase your analogy with party punctuality grin If a party is for 12am sharp how sensible will I look arriving the venue at 11.55am? If I show up at 12.03am on the flipside, who will blame me for lateness?

Are you then going to create adjectives for every minutes of the 24hours in a clock?

The only Adjective for 12:00am is midnight
The only Adjective for 12:00pm is Noon.

Lest you will call 12:35pm noon and 11:35am midnight too. Afterall, they are close to the time. The definition of noon and midnight is standard. I would suggest you check the literal meaning up in the dictionary.

This is why anything after 12:00pm is called .... AFTERNOON (Even 1second beyond noon is termed Afternoon and not Noon). If you're a sailor like me, you would understand meridian calculation and the brain behind am/pm.

Noon and Midnight are standard all over the world to mean 12:00pm and 12:00am respectively.

Now to the tricky puzzle.....

Does your clock moves anti-clockwisely or clockwisely?

If you understand the concept of 24hours clock style it should be easy-peasy.

I totally agree with you .

grin Every Exam I ever sat for in Nigeria permits a 15mins lateness! Meaning, you will be allowed in to the hall, if you are 15mins behind schedule, though you will be required to submit your test papers when everyone else is submitting. Your argument is ridiculous. 3Minutes pass midnite is minimal and closer than 12hrs 5min to midnite, anyhow u want to look at it

grin U must be an old-school sailor. Cos In Einstein law of Relativity, Time moves backwards. Nowadays it is believed you can move forward or backwards in time. grin The conventional clockwise motion of time is purely fictional and usually stands against the universal motion of time. The sun for instance rises in the east and set anticlockwise in the west. The planets move in anticlockwise motion. So? Big deal about clockwise motion?
