For one, it's important to note there's a huge difference between killing one's own cubs & eating them.

It's not uncommon for cats of all kinds to find their cub deceased and then consume it. There's any number of reasons for why this occurs:

Grief
To ensure no other animal can eat the remains.
To eliminate it's scent in the area.

Distress reaction.
There are instances where a lionness will ‘technically' kill their cub and eat it as well. This is usually reserved for instances where the cub is injured, sick, or just died. There's a pretty viral video of a lionness doing this, but you can actually note the time of death of the cub on the video. Prior to that, she's seen trying to revive it.

I don't believe this, since over 20yrs I have been watching NAT GEO WILD, I haven't seen such nor head. The only instances where male lion kills lion cubs is when they take over a new pride of lion (as you can see in the pics above) it kills the cubs of the other male Lion so as to make the female prides go into heat again for him to sire his own cubs.

Lion don't even eat cheetah, leopard, wild dog and hyena when it kills them. It kills them to reduce competition not for food.

Male lions that just rise to the top of the pride kill all cubs that are not from their loins to make sure they erase the former boss's legacy and bring theirs

Also, they kill the Cubs to rush the lionesses into mating after successfully taken over the pride
