Last night, my attention was called by an assistant to a news article on the news websites and blogging sites, purportedly saying that hoodlums attacked the Federal High Court, Osogbo and held some journalist hostage during court proceedings.

I can categorically confirm that this is nothing but a lie concocted from the pit of hell. I was there live and no attack whatsoever took place anywhere near the court premises. Also, the court proceedings went smoothly like any other day and no journalist was taken hostage in or around the courthouse. The scenario being maliciously used by the fake news peddlers happened when a single 'supposed journalist' without any identification means was questioned and asked to identify himself before making video recordings of court proceedings by a concerned, law-abiding citizen whose picture is now being wrongly circulated as a hoodlum. As a matter of fact, immediately after the case was adjourned and the suspect was moved to the correctional facility in Osogbo, I waited alongside a policewoman; the DPO of Ataoja Division, until after everyone had left.

As the opposition is relentless in their attack against democratic order in the state and are launching attacks by sowing misinformation so as to cause disruptions. It appears that they don't want to give up, therefore we plead to the public to disregard fake news such as this and also confirm the authenticity of news and information before sharing with others. It is also important to warn that the perpetrators of this act of misinforming the public will be made to face the wrath of the law if caught. Osun is a peaceful State and the Government will not allow anyone or anything to disrupt the peace so enjoyed by our people.
