SUG President, Tobias Oshim Reacts Over "3 Million Naira Students Fund", Says Money Still "Intact"

By Wisdom Nwedene, Abakaliki

The President Student Union Government of Ebonyi State University, Comrade Tobias Oshim has finally reacted to the allegation levelled against him by the Senate over alleged embezzlement of 3 Million Naira fund meant for students.

In a statement made available to IGBERE TV on Saturday, Comr. Oshim said the money was never transferred to his personal account as the money is still intact and yet to disbursed to the students.

The statement signed by Ibekwe Chibuike,
Chief Press Secretary to the SUG President further said that the funds allocated for the payment of indigenous students' bursary school fees are still intact and will be disbursed once the committee issues the disbursement guidelines.

He stated that the allegations from the Senate are deemed unwarranted and uncalled for, as they appear to be aimed at defamation and soliciting public sympathy.

The statement reads in parts,

"Following the allegations leveled against the SUG President of Ebonyi State University, Comr. Nkwegu Tobias Oshim, the President has briefed his team and the entire Presidency this morning with the following key points:

1. The funds released recently, post the university's convocation ceremony, have yet to be decided upon by the union leadership. This discussion was delayed due to the convocation and its aftermath.

2. The funds allocated for the payment of indigenous students' bursary school fees are still intact and will be disbursed once the committee issues the disbursement guidelines.

3. The allegations from the Senate are deemed unwarranted and uncalled for, as they appear to be aimed at defamation and soliciting public sympathy. Claims of embezzlement or misappropriation of funds seem to stem from the unofficial stance of the Senate President, Comr. Usulor Marvelous, who purportedly requested cash disbursement of the bursary. In contrast, the SUG President, Comr. Nkwegu Tobias Oshim, insisted on direct payment to the university account without any cash disbursement. He emphasized his stance with the statement, "No cash gifting this time."

4. Comr. Nkwegu advised the Senate to refrain from continuous defamation and disgraceful actions against the reputation of the Students Union Government of Ebonyi State University. He urged the Legislative Council to adopt an investigative approach rather than relying on unverified claims. Additionally, he suggested that the Senate focus more on advocacy efforts that would enhance the welfare of the union and its student representatives. He also highlighted the Senate's oversight of the fact that the Union Government President still uses a motorcycle and keke to serve the students.

In conclusion, the SUG President emphasized that the Senate should not allow themselves to become instruments of defamation for financial gain but should instead prioritize the best interests of the students. "
