Iwuanyanwu made the assertion at the weekend in Owerri, the Imo state capital while addressing newsmen. The leader of the Igbo apex group denied claims made by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that Ohanaeze Ndigbo was planning a trip to Sokoto State to apologise to the North over the 1966 military coup. “We can’t go to beg anybody. Igbos were killed in that coup. As far as Ohanaeze Ndigbo is concerned, Igbos did not have any affair with the 1966 coup. It was purely a military affair. “It’s not true, it’s fake news. The man that even carried the fake news has apologised. What happened was that we had a retreat at Enugu. Nobody talked about it. The only thing we did was to appoint a peace and reconciliatory committee because we want peace for our people in Lagos and everywhere else. “First of all, Igbo didn’t carry out any coup. People who were killed were not killed by Ndigbo; they were killed by soldiers. Igbos didn’t kill anybody. The coup was carried out by soldiers. It was purely a military affair, nothing to do with the Igbo. We have no reason to apologise to anybody. Ohanaeze Ndigbo objects. 5 Likes 1 Share

When we say igbos don't have good politicians they think you're abusing What concerns this one with apology. Abi who are those demanding for apology? Except ohaneze ndigbo is trying to justify the coup. There was coup, canter coup, civil war every done chop break fast so what is apology about or you are trying to justify the coup 10 Likes 1 Share |

This ohaneze ndigbo president is not sound . When you know it is a military affair you don't need to bring it up. One may assume you are indirectly justifying the coup 5 Likes |

Have the July 1966 Northern coup merchants and their vestigial surviving members ever apologised for the 1983, 1985, and 1993 coups incursion that have further bastardized this nation? Why are the January 1966 boys the only ones being demonised when any military coup is an illegality in its entirety? It simply means your political correctness military or otherwise depend of which section of the country you belong to. Too bad. Meanwhile, 6 Likes 3 Shares

Did anyone asked for an apology? Scores were already counted and those that did it already paid with their lives and those of their people. So what’s there to apologize for? 16 Likes |

He said Igbos did not commit any crime but rather Nigerian soldiers. It was a political strategy of then political players to use Igbo tag as a way to deviate from the real issues of the coup. Igbos deserve apology for that tag and attempted ethnic cleansing based solely on ethnic profiling. |

No need to apologize for the 1966 coup, it was never an igbo coup. The main plotters came from niger delta, north central, south west . The man the plotted the coup to make president was not igbo .why would I apologize for the mistakes of others. The only apology igbos owe is that igbo officers like Ojukwu, Ironsi stepped in to quash the coup |
