The other day, my mom called me and gave me the gist of how a shop owner close to her was almost scammed of N120,000.

When I asked her for the full details, she said someone called her and pretended to be her distant cousin who was in the hospital and needed help. Luckily for her, an app on the woman's phone (Truecaller) revealed the true identity of the caller and that’s how she got saved.

After this incident, my mother downloaded Truecaller sharp, sharp!

Truecaller have been saving lives of parents since... It's good how your mum quickly downloaded on her phone too...

if you need Truecaller to figure out if someone is truly your family member then you sir are just a corner away from getting scammed. a simple solution is to ask the PROPER QUESTION THAT ONLY A DISTANT COUSIN WOULD KNOW rather than trusting Truecaller

here is a simple clue: some of these scammers will call everyone on a stolen phone (or lost phone that they found) with yeye stories and Truecaller would tell you its really the person.

This same story line was used to promote true caller on different threads.
Does true caller pay agents for promoting their application because I don't understand all these childish marketing

Regardless of what anyone says, people who have Truecaller installed in their phones have a better advantage knowing who is calling them in most cases

I could relate with the story cos I've had similar experiences.

Though it looks a like a campaign, the lesson is there to be learnt and the solution is there to be embraced as well with the help of Truecaller. We should all be vigilant in these perilous times !!

i must be the only person in the world who doesn't use truecaller

This lady called FAVOUR UCHENKEMAKULAM CHNEDU with phone number 07085922950 and also 08163730506 scammed me of 88,000 thoudand naira and she has been dodging my calls ever since. Pls beware of her and these two numbers because she is a scammer. She has a son about 12years old or thereabout and lives around ladylak shomolu/bariga area. Unfortunately, I don't know her house address as I only met her on the road. We had a business transaction which went on smoothly that made me to trust her enough to send her funds upfront for another one and she ran with my money. When I dialed one of the numbers, it showed Evelyn Ndekwu Esq, a property estate manager or something. Pls don't fall victim to her or do any business with her as she can't be trusted.
