Sudden changes in the odor of your flatulence can be caused by a variety of factors, ranging from dietary choices to underlying health conditions. While occasional shifts in the smell of your gas are usually harmless, persistent changes may warrant further investigation.

Diet plays a significant role in the odor of flatulence. Certain foods, such as cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower), beans, onions, garlic, and dairy products, contain sulfur compounds and fermentable carbohydrates that can produce foul-smelling gases when broken down by bacteria in the digestive tract. If you've recently increased your intake of these foods or added new items to your diet, it could explain the sudden change in the smell of your farts.

Changes in gut bacteria composition can also affect the odor of your flatulence. Disruptions to the balance of bacteria in the gut, often caused by factors like illness, antibiotics, or dietary changes, can lead to increased gas production and alterations in the composition of gases emitted, potentially resulting in more pungent odors.

Stress and anxiety can impact digestive processes, leading to changes in bowel habits and the odor of flatulence. When you're stressed, your body releases hormones that can affect gut motility and the balance of bacteria in the digestive system, potentially contributing to smelly farts.

In some cases, sudden changes in the odor of flatulence may be a sign of underlying health conditions. Conditions such as gastroenteritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), celiac disease, lactose intolerance, or malabsorption disorders can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, including changes in gas odor. Additionally, infections or inflammation in the digestive tract may alter the smell of flatulence.

If you're experiencing persistent changes in the odor of your farts, especially if accompanied by other gastrointestinal symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional. They can help identify the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment or dietary adjustments to alleviate symptoms and promote digestive health.

Regardless of your diet if you've not gone to toilet (shit) for more than 24hours you must have a smelly fart. But once you shit it all out in the toilet, nobody would notice your fart. A smelly fart is a sign that you need to visit the toilet and pass out faeces because the fart coming out at this time will be carrying your faeces' odour.
