Kwara: "We Need Elected Leaders, Not Appointed Administrators" - Hon SA Lukman by Jimsonjaat96(m): 6:14pm On May 15 |
Comr. Salahudeen A. Lukman has criticized Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasak's administration for undermining the intelligence and rights of Kwara State's citizens by appointing local government development officers (LG DOs). It would be recalled that the Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq-led Kwara State Government announced the appointment of 16 local government area development officers (LGA-DOs) in a press statement by Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye dated May 14. The LGA-DOs are Adisa Jimoh Olarewaju (Asa); Asaburu Umar Mora (Baruten); Mohammed Haruna Likpata (Edu); Ajiboye Yemisi (Ekiti); Ayanshola Benjamin (Ifelodun); Ajao Omotayo Garba (Ilorin East); Yisa Abdulrauf Ayodeji (Ilorin South); Abdullahi Abdulfatai Ajia (Ilorin West); Awodiji Omotayo Felix (Irepodun); Dr (Mrs) Sarah Oloyede (Isin); Salihu Sadiq Yakub (Kaiama); Sulu Emiola Agnes (Moro); Abass Zanjan Damilola (Offa); Taye Babalola (Oke Ero); Oladipo Ayobami Adeoye (Oyun); and Fatimah Asabe Jiyah (Patigi). In his reaction, Lukman condemns the governor's actions, stating, "We are not in a banana republic; there is no substitute for the statutory local government authority. Either conduct local government elections or provide legitimate elected local government chairmen." He argues that without a legislative framework, the appointed LG DOs are merely aides with no real authority in the administration of Kwara's local governments. The statement also calls on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasak to cease what Lukman describes as a deception and to respect the wishes of Kwara's people. "After five years, it's time he respects the wishes of Kwara's people. Our people are not naive," Lukman asserts. Lukman further urges Kwarans to endure the current administration's perceived incompetence while expressing optimism for a resolution. He concludes with a hopeful message, "May such insensitive leadership never plague Kwara again. Their days are numbered." HIS FULL STATEMENT IS REPRODUCED BELOW Cease the deception of Kwara citizens: We demand elected local government leadership, not an advanced sole administrator. It's disgraceful that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasak's administration continues to underestimate Kwara's people, openly mocking their intelligence by appointing unconstitutional local government development officers. The governor must realize we are not in a banana republic; there's no substitute for the statutory local government authority recognized as the third tier of government by Nigeria's constitution. Either conduct local government elections or provide legitimate elected local government chairmen. Without legislative framework, the appointed LG DOs are mere aides with no authority in Kwara's local government administration. Governor Abdulrahman should stop deluding Kwarans; our people are not naive. After five years, it's time he respects the wishes of Kwara's people. While urging Kwarans to endure this administration's incompetence, I share their concerns and pains. I believe there will be a resolution, and may such insensitive leadership never plague Kwara again. Their days are numbered. Signed Hon. Comr Salahudeen A Lukman Eluku Omo Adugbo
