Chief Emeka Agbanari, who reacted on the matter said the process for resolving the problem is ongoing.

He, however, argued that Rice Mill does not emit dangerous materials, adding that what the factory uses is wood that is burnt in the mill.

It is good to know that all the stakeholders are meeting to resolve the issue.

It seems that regulators didn't supervise his construction effectively from the onset to advise him on the impact on the environment. That noise impact on people, at least, would have been brought to his attention.

Wood is a renewable energy source but this thick smoke produced during its combustion is more likely because of incomplete combustion which releases a lot of poisonous substances including carbon monixide and smoke.

He may need to consider other options of heating the boilers. There are Rice mills in other parts of Nigeria yet their hosts don't experience this kind of hazards so he must remain positive to resolve this early stage challenges. He can allot 5% of the shares of the company to the community so that they have part ownership of the rice mill.

Companies are not supposed to be using firewood in Anambra. Anambra with it's abundant gas should be allowed to utilise it's natural resources

You are not supposed to live there if the area is designated as an industrialized zone. You start crying when the government comes for demolition, but you do not realize that they are genuinely preserving your health.

Ordinarily, a project like this should have undergone an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment(ESIA) with the outcome displayed for whoever cares to check, and then develop an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMAP) to tackle challenges raised in the ESIA, but corruption and carelessness of regulatory authorities will not allow the right thing to be done.

What does this rice mill mean sef?
What do they do inside?

Nigeria must stop building rice Mills everywhere.

The country needs investment in Rice farms and not Rice Mills

Most of the rice Mills across the country including Lagos owned Imota Rice Mill are not functional because of absence of enough rice paddy.

The country needs farms not Mills

What is rice paddy?
Focusmind:
That's why having industrial zone is important. Nnobi is a busy and highly populated village in Anambra state. I wonder why such a gigantic rice mill should be sited in that place. The community is not known as rice farmers, which means, the company would be sourcing for their rice paddy from the North or the rice producing communities in Anambra.

Since when does wood smoke give skin rash? ... do you really believe to heat the boilers the wood would generate smoke to blanket the community? There is a problem .... the Environmental Protection agency did not do their job in the first place .... nor are doing g their job presently. Why isn't the factory immediately shut down? We are shouting for foreign investment ... shouting for industrialization ... "it will bring jobs" .... the factory is here ... it brought jobs... didn't it? The community and environment is in danger .... they said it is a rice factory ... is it? What are the long term effects of the smoke inhalation?... what is in the run off water... that will pollute potable water? Whatever the smoke... it is toxic ... are they burning industrial waste? The community should stop complaining and take action.... shut down the factory ... burn it down ... or collect the management team.... and the community leader.

What is rice paddy?

The original rice after harvesting from the rice field, except if there is any other contrary explanation.

Rice paddy is the harvested rice before it becomes milled, refined and bagged.
