New Minimum Wage: Nigerian Workers Confirm Receiving FG Payment by Ofunaofu: 9:19am On Sep 27
Nigerian workers have confirmed receiving Federal Government’s new minimum wage.

The spokesperson of Nigeria Labour Congress, Benson Upah and the Deputy President of the Trade Union Congress, Tommy Etim disclosed this in a separate statement on Thursday.

Upah and Etim’s comments come as DAILY POST exclusively reported on Thursday that the Federal Government has begun the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage.

Reacting to the new minimum wage payment commencement, Upah, asked establishments in the country to emulate the example set by the Federal Government.

“Yes, I think so. We ask other entities to emulate this example”, he said.

Similarly, TUC’s Etim said, “FG’s committee on consequential adjustments already released a template, so, no one has any moral ground to delay the payment of the minimum wage. We now advise that all other parties follow suit and commence the payment of the new minimum wage.”

A civil servant working in the office of the Head of Civil Service, who is not authorized to speak, also confirmed that he has received a new minimum wage payment for September 2024.

“I got an alert around 2 pm on Thursday. I am hoping the arrears will come too”, he told DAILY POST.

Some of the federal workers confirmed that they received an additional N40,000 to their previous salary, as consequential adjustment.

The implication meant that over 1.2 million workers under the federal government’s payment have begun to receive payment of the new minimum wage.

On Tuesday Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, confirmed that the government has approved the upward review of the consolidated public service salary structure, CONPSS in line with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act, 2024.

This followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of N70,000 new Minimum wage on July 18, 2024.

Tinubu’s approval was followed by the Senate passage of the new minimum wage bill into law.

The N70,000 minimum wage was a 100 percent pay rise from the N30,000 paid under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

Meanwhile, the payment rise implementation for Nigerian workers came at the same time prices of goods and services had hit the rooftops as Headline and Food Inflation stood at 32.15 and 37.52 percent in August 2024.

Wether private or federal or state government job

I can't...stupid people...if your salary is 150k still won't be enough to run expenses of now days

Transportation, bag of rice ....even if you buy all the food stuff at home ...no matter what you will still spend up to 10k every week buying things you will use in cooking the food stuff

Where is stay I pay 10k monthly as Nepa bill

I prefer the 30k, if fuel price is 200 per liter and a bag of rice for 15k

Not making sense and the whole thing appears well planned. How come the wage award of 35k earlier paid across board is almost the same amount later added across board again in the name of 70k minimum wage?

Forget it, Labour Union and Federal govt are acting a script they had written. They already knew the plan from onset, all these paparazzi to tell Nigerians they went on strike to press for salary increase, na just show off. Petrol is now above 1k per liter, from less than N200, so what will the additional 40k do to cushion this?

Note, I used to support Tinubu, you can confirm from my previous posts. But as it is now, forget it. Though obi is not an option.

The question is How many people under the pay role of Federal Government. This is an evil Government. I want to know , is it only the people under the payroll of FG , that are buying a ltr for 1000 or its every body , are they the only ones buying items on high increase ?
What happens to people that are not under the payroll of FG. This is evil and the adjustment will not make any meaning to the burden people are already facing.

Only few has received it. Majority are yet to receive anything. Meanwhile, the new minimum wage template is a cheat. It's just a slight difference from the previous one. Imagine, adding 40k across the board for everyone (level 1-17) and then calling this as minimum wage, which is far away from the living wage. The implications of this is that, the corruption is likely to increase in the civil service. Because it can't be compared to the current economic crisis.
