"I Failed Out of Medical School After 5 Years, but I Don’t Regret It. I’ve moved on." - Iniobong Geoffrey. What does failure mean to people, and how do they handle it? Zikoko seeks to understand this by telling the stories of everyday Nigerians and their experiences with failure in different aspects of life. This is a limited weekly series.. https://www.zikoko.com/life/i-failed-out-of-medical-school-after-5-years-but-i-dont-regret-it/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Zkk%20Traffic%20March%2031-%20April%208&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0BMAABHb9slN5OU3us6KEjWL5HsNn_ZR3xW4wN6Ww_w-CykBv8jJU0_fmDlQVsug_aem_VSwcvjR_ugpCfPHQaSm1BA&utm_id=6655924916931&utm_content=6655926784531&utm_term=6655926784331 15 Likes 2 Shares

The world isn't interested in the storms you encountered, but whether or not you brought in the ship. - Raul ArmestoWhat an incredible twist and turns life sometimes throws @ humanity. Studying medicine has really humbled a lot of people especially brilliant folks. I know one girls that almost took her own life. However, everyone has his God-ordained destiny. Many hearty congratulations for sharing your experiences man. It is really traumatising but you made the best lemonade from the lemon life threw @ you. More heights to attain sir. Even though I didn’t make it, I don’t regret the five years I spent studying medicine and surgery. The discipline and training I got in medical school helped me in microbiology. Studying was easier, and I did much better. I even had time to become active in my campus fellowship. This is the spirit and mindset man. Great you came out stronger and exceptional again after all the academic adventures. Some training in the crucible of life are just stepping stones to greater glory. 7 Likes |

I almost shed tears for this piece...as your ordeal sort of mirrors mine. I'm glad that you survived it. If you had but applied to study Maths, who knows! God also showed me mercy as I graduated with a First Class in the end and currently abroad. God will continue to see you through (Amen). 24 Likes 1 Share |

I wrote jamb 8 times because I insisted I must study medicine. My lowest score was 238. Im all these attempts I beat the cut off mark of all the institutions I applied in. Even when Unijos had a cutoff of 265 for MBBS I scored 288 that year. But still I never got admission in any of the schools I applied for. The Nigerian factor was frustrating. Ethnic and tribal politics played a part. As much as I had that dream, I had to move on. But sometimes I wonder if I'd not have been a brilliant doctor. Nigeria wastes potentials. But one way or another, we must keep pushing. 24 Likes |

Interesting story... But the ultimate goal is to make money not to graduate with first class.. These days those that didn't even write jamb are among the richest 14 Likes 1 Share |

:PWonderful!!! Do you even know how many times we tried to get admission to study this course Mehn I know how it feels, but I want to remind you that setbacks don't define us. I know someone who tried more than four times before they finally achieved their dream of becoming a doctor. It's tough, but persistence is often the key to success. Talent and potentials and sometimes the path to success isn't straight – it’s about pushing through the tough moments. Quitting shouldn't have been the answer, and I truly believe you can get back on track. It’s all part of the journey, and with hard work and determination, you’ll get there. Don't let this stop you from chasing your dream – you're capable of more than you know. |

If you had the means and had travelled abroad, you would have passed effortlessly. The Nigerian educational system is just too stressful. Making you take courses you will never ever need. You will never have failed if you had studied abroad 6 Likes 1 Share |

Many of you just desire to study a particular course, not minding if you have mental capacity to study it successfully. Bro, live goes on as you opined, and to make it, it doesn't revolve around a particular job. 1 Like |
