People in the News: Arrest in abuse case at Oprah's school
A former dormitory matron at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls was arrested Thursday on several charges involving students, including alleged assault, indecent assault, criminal injury and soliciting underage girls to perform indecent acts.

The Associated Press story did not reveal a name, but did state that the 27-year-old woman was being held by police and was expected to appear in court Monday.

The $40 million South African school is the result of Winfrey's promise to former President Nelson Mandela to give girls from disadvantaged backgrounds a quality education. It opened to great fanfare Jan. 2, with celebrities like Tina Turner and Spike Lee in attendance, as well as Mandela.

Right here, Mr. Washington, this way to your latest award. Jodie Foster probably said something to that effect Thursday when her friend Denzel Washington received the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at a gala in Los Angeles. The award is given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles.
Winfrey recently made a tearful apology to parents and students upon learning of the allegations.

Oprah had the woman fired and all the other's who knew of it released of duty as well. Even went ahead to get the gal's cell phones with direct lines to her so they can report any such situation should it happen again directly to her. Woman dey try ooo, this is an american doing this for africa's children.
