Spyder,
Did you reach the back of the university where the "Professors duplexes" were built? I'm sure those must have been abandoned to lizards and snakes, while the university pays huge housing allowance every month to it's professors!

Although many will see the new construction in ESUT as something "wonderful", in my opinion it is a caricature distortion of what would have been a reference well designed and purpose built university in Africa. The new Nnamdi Azikiwe library in UNN was a vision almost as old as that university. Zik himself was said to have planned that library in the 1960s! Yet it was completed less than 5 years ago! But if you look at that massive library, you will see why it took so long to build and that it does not make a caricature of the name UNN.

Chimaroke had been exposed to great American higher institutions of learning and he sought to bring home to Enugu what he saw in America. It was obvious that such a world-class masterpiece institution of higher learning could not be built within a few years, so he built what he could and left the master-plan for others to improve on where he stopped.I think lack of proper exposure to modern trends abroad is the regrettable missing virtue with most people in positions of authority in Nigeria.

Bros, I don't think its a problem of lack of exposure to trends abroad. It's more of our leaders' disdain for the general populace.
When the politicians want to build their mansions, they go to great lengths to ensure it compares favorably with what obtains in the Hamptons, London or Dubai. But facilities meant for the masses in the 21st century can be built with 1960s technology. Smh

Guy,I want you to ask how much Nigerians pay for college.
You and I live in Yankee and we know it cost a fortune to pay your way through college.
This money in return is used to build infrastructure/research centers in the universities.
Nigerians want everything for free and at the same time the very best.
I have three siblings in Nigerian Universities and often they complain of high cost of school fees and I will just laugh.
In Nigeria the government bankroll the Universities and they can only do so much. Reason why our schools are dilapidated and quality of education substandard.
In the Yanks their schools run a business and make profits.
Stop expecting a miracle because we are still developing.

If you want state of the art infrastructures and quality education you must pay for it and pay good. Imagine, people are paying 50,000 for a whole school year and they are complaining. Do you know how much that is in dollars ? A little over $300.

Even the LASU school fees have now been reduced to N25,000 ($156.25)! In the CSU school I attended, the tuition was over $3,000/semester.
It was the Pell and Cal grants that put me thru the school.

Yes, I agree students would have to pay more for a quality education; but the governments (federal and state) could assist students by creating similar education grants/loans.

This university is large, there are places you don't need to go, like this road stretching into the bushes of Amurri town. Space for future developments.

Those brown duplexes in the picture must be part of the initial ( almost completed 30 duplexes) constructed as the "Professors quarters" at the very far end of the university campus. They were exactly the same plan and color.

In 2005, I had just been in America for 6 years, but I was still impressed at the scale and quality of the new university under construction by the Chimaroke guy.I was impressed that Chimaroke had the sense to spread development to the un-fenced far end of the school to safeguard the land provided for the university. I am sure with these many years of abandonment, the communities and prospective land grabbers would have started encroaching and building permanent structures in the university land by now.

Please ignore those useless boys trying to derail the thread by talking about sidewalks along a major road! They truly can't differentiate a street from a highway.

I doubt if it's being encroached because of the location of the school. The land used to be a thick jungle and almost a no man's land at the back of the school. The only part they could encroach is from the front. I don't think anyone can muster the courage to live behind the school cheesy

Dive left into the Ebeano bypass, built by Chimaroke Nnamani. This small road is a smart move that solved lots of Enugu traffic wahala.

Picture shows men of the Enugu capital city development authority (ECDA) treating the fvuck up of an errant driver. These guys are completely ruthless.

I believe that's Artisans' Quarters... The buildings date way back. My great aunt, an artisan, was a beneficiary of the bungalow-type houses further down.

Sure nwanne!
As small children they told us that the owner was warned seriously that he will die whenever he completed this house, hence the delay. We heard that he is adding one block each year grin our childish mind believed the tales back then.
