The Ambassador of Belgium to Nigeria, Mr. Michel Dewez, says the people of Belgium and Anambra shared a lot in common, including being great traders and highly entrepreneurial people, which should necessitate a cordial relationship between his country and the state.

Speaking during a courtesy visit on the Anambra state Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, at Government HouseAwka yesterday, Dewez said the visit to Anambra was enable Belgium and the people of Anambra State "to know each other better and for the Belgium Embassy to discover the numerous potentialities of the people and its population." He said the visit, which according to him, was his first official visit to states in the country in his capacity of the Belgian Ambassador was part of his job of exploring the country, meeting people and making new contacts that would enhance the relationship between his country and Nigeria . His words: "people told me that Anambra is one of the biggest market in West Africa with the most entrepreneurial people. I am here to see with my own eyes your bustling economy, and I am not disappointed."

The Ambassador equally disclosed that Belgian exports to Nigeria in 2006 were more than 400 Million Euro and commended the Governor for his efforts to promote the economic re-birth of the state which according to economic indices has begun to yeild dividends. Responding, Governor Peter Obi expressed gratitude to the Belgian Ambassador for the interest of his country in Anambra State and assured him that the state is ready to collaborate with Belgium in any manner that will be mutually re-warding.
