Men in Africa are only respected by how much wealth they have, or so he thought. Yes, maybe it is true, ‘after all who listens to a poor wise man these days, if he is so wise, why is he so poor??’ if I am wealthy, therefore I am wise. He always used that to comfort himself at times like this, with the belief that he is the only one who had thought about it.

He would occasionally look back at the best parts of his life, how much he had achieved right from the day he graduated from the university. He was and still is another testimony that ‘your university degree doesn’t
matter when you do not know how to get rich with it’.
“A Third class student” he would say aloud. Even he, still cannot believe it.
Mama Anna told him “God is always with his children”, he would smile and simply nod, the way he nodded in college when he asked a question and
the lecturer looked into his eyes to have his attention even though he didn’t understand. In his head he’d say ‘mama can be
funny o, which God? I’ve seen people that were dedicated to HIM right from birth, overcoming my kind in the University, I went to all the parties, but they were never seen. FOR MY KIND ONLY SEES CLEARLY IN

God.

He rubbed his sweaty palms on his face leaving a finger on his lips,
looking at the ceiling as though he was caught cheating in an exam and pretended to be thinking. ‘Old man, the worst lie you can ever tell is lying to yourself and trying to believe it’

This voice, he heard it quite alright, but couldn’t tell if it was from his head or from an actual person. He felt his fingers pulling his hair, holding his face tight like those mad people in Faze’s kolomental video.
Lost in his thoughts again, a slap landed on his face! Chei!! Who slapped me? It’s been a while o, his eyes opened that instant, not that it was closed in the
real sense.
He couldn’t see who it was, just not yet, the sight was blurred. He felt like sleeping but he remembered Ade,
‘WHO OFF LIGHT??’ no that is not my portion, he shakes his head to clear all he was thinking about then the phone
rings...
