As members of this forum know, I am not a fan of President Barak Obama. In fact I have written some nasty things about him. My views are very well known to many of my friends, most of whom disagree with me. But then I am entitled to my opinions. I could have misgivings too about others. But I have this big weakness, blame it on my profession if you like. I hate liars. It does not matter that they lie about a person I don't like. I tend to defend these people, even if I hate them. So I will defend Obama from some of the lies being peddled in the United States by some people there.

The simple matter is that Obama is not American born, and does not qualify to be President of the United States of America. The US Constitution dictates that one must be an American born citizen to hold that position. Apart from some birth certificates which are being circulated, these people called 'birthers' say that Omaba was actually born at a hospital called Coast General Hospital in Mombasa Kenya in 1961.

I am assuming that these people really know about Kenya. The reality is that they do not. Kenya was not independent in 1961. There was no Coast General hospital at the time. But I know there was Lady Grigg Maternity Hospital, which is barely 200 meters from the Indian Ocean. I ought to know. I come from the coast of Kenya and live just some 20 kilometers from Mombasa where the hospital is based. But not only did I grow up in Mombasa town, where my father was working, I was infact born at Lady Grigg Maternity Hospital.

In 1961, The entire Coastal strip was under the Sultan of Zanzibar following an arrangement between the Colonial Government and the Arabs, that the 10 mile (16 kilometers) strip be ruled by the Sultan. There was no Coast Province at the time! In any case, Obama's father was not even in Kenya at the time. He was in HAWAII!

No, I never met the stepfather or the mother. Obama himself has been to Kenya only twice, and for a very short time, on both occasions
