once again, we are compelled by the need to defend a homeboy from the xenophobia instincts of southern African countries to write and solicit for your support . Any objective mind who has been following the ongoing BBA4 revolution will agree with me that kelvin, our naija boy, has demonstrated all that it takes to win the ultimate prize of 200,000 US dollars. kelvin is cool. he has the swagger.he is at home with majority of the housemates. his performance as head of house was excellent. he entertains with his raps and dances. he is everything you would desire in a housemate
however, there is a grand conspiracy to evict him all because he is a naija boy. some people have made a profession out of spreading hate messages against him. some have vowed that NIGERIANS must be eliminated from the house. while we may not have the time to join issues with them on no less a frivolous game like big brother africa, its important that we say no to xenophobia by making sure that our boy survives on sunday. lets vote enmasse simultaneuosly for KELVIN and his Tanzanian pair-ELIZABETH. both will count differently.thanks

are you sure the tanzanian isnt one of the antagonists?

anyway, its just a show. Everybody cant win.

about the bad belle, backbiting and xenophobia- that seems to follow Nigerians everywhere and they themselves spread it a lot too. If he has concrete evidence of it, then he should keep tabs on them.

@Poster, if the HATE you claim is being broadcasted all over Africa, don't you thinking BOYCOTTING the show completely would be better for all? I mean Why isn't your government calling for a BAN in this case IF the HATE you speak of is actually being allowed and the HATERS allowed to continue in the show?

BBA, in my opinion, is the one show that actually DENIGRATES Africans in all ways possible. Yet, I have never really seen much push to BAN that show or to take it off air. No, Not by the government or even the people who claim to LOVE Nigeria with all their hearts and brains.

I was about to say the same thing myself. If Kevin gets any more unfair treatment, i.e. gets evicted unceremoniously, then it's high time Nigerians boycott BBA. Don't audition to be a housemate, and don't watch the stupid show. But do we really have the stamina/self-control? undecided tongue Doubt it.

Nice view, though its unfortunate that most Nigerians dont know what their problems are, not to talk of how to go about it. undecided

Oh please stop!!!!

This show has been on for years and Nigerians have gulped it down with not much complaint. All the denigration of African, as a whole, completely overlooked for years. Now suddenly, you want to CLAIM the show is reflective of how Nigerians are held in contempt by South Africans? Please give us a break !!! Suddenly the show is wrong. Nevermind the same show cannot be aired on any of the major networks in even the western world. CBN could not even air any of BBA because of the disgusting portrayal of human beings, which has been accepted on the most part in most of africa.

Abi ooo!!! I saw a bit and was DISGUSTED. Go see the BBA thread on Nairaland and you wonder if these same people understand how disgusting what they allow really is and how disgusting it is to our image, and this has been going on for so many seasons now with no calls for a ban or boycott.

No true.
A few people have actually called for the ban but their calls get dismissed by the ever corrupt and incompetent NBC.

Well, the calls are definitely not coming from your Dora as the recent ban of the SONY AD, as well as the SONY distributed movie, district 9, now then? Is this NBC suddenly bigger than Dora " the explorers" mouth huh? lol

I didnt know you were specifically referring to "minister" Dora; the only person Nigerians believe it is her call and her call alone to take any fall for nigeria.
On the other hand, she might be working towards the ban of BBA. tongue

Finally, the poster's claims are unsubstantiated and of course not as degrading as other issues Dora has involved herself in. Heard that NASS forced the BBA to adjust some of their programs of which they have done.
Re: Arise O Nairalanders For Kelvin/elizabeth @ Bba Revolution by Kobojunkie: 2:45am On Oct 08, 2009
Well, she willingly made herself the saviour of Nigeria's image when SONY was involved and it did not then take her even TWO DAYS to get her letters out there to SONY and the other party, on both occassions. Wonder why it is now taking her YEARS to get her letters out to BBA, considering the show is already in its 4th season, and still no BANS.

As for her being the ONLY person Nigerians believe can do something about it, according to you, the few, who have called for a ban, have been "SILENCED", so it only makes sense for them to expect someone higher, like Dora "the explorer" to intervene on their behalf. But I am guessing, since BBA is probably not as popular, outside of Africa, we might have to wait a couple more seasons before she gets to them or it. Or it could be that many more Nigerians are willing to overlook the fact that the show is not only degrading to Nigeria, but Africa as a whole, so they can enjoy the nudity, and hate which they have grown to love, shown them as many times as possible.

Interesting, so in this case, we are willing to "ADJUST SOME", not call for a BAN or BOYCOTT anymore. WOW. how quick we are to forgive the show of years of denigrading africa, WONDERFUL grin!!!!

I agree with you on this.

Other reasons maybe:

1. Not many Nigerians are calling for the ban, infact they enjoy the show unlike District 9, Sony advert and co.

2. The complaints may not have reached her table owing to the fact that calls to ban the show are very unpopular.

3. This is the first time the program is being aired while she is office, hence we cannot hold her responsible for keeping mum for the past 4 years of BBA.

4. NASS has forced the BBA to adjust some of the scenes (nude part) since last year. The BBA have done this.

5. The posters claim is unsubstantiated as it is a mere insinuation.

Senate Seeks to Censor Big Brother Africa
From Sufuyan Ojeifo in Abuja, 08.04.2008

Abuja: Senate has directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to censor or ban outright the Big Brother Africa Reality programme brought into Nigerian homes via the Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) owned by Multichoice if the contents contradict socio-cultural values of the Nigerian people.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Information, Senator Ayogu Eze, told Senate correspondents yesterday in Abuja that, “what we have said is that if they bring a programme that contradicts our social and cultural values, they attract a sanction and the NBC is under instructions to make sure that the rules are strictly applied.”

He spoke against the backdrop of reactions to reports linking the National Assembly to a move to ban Multichoice from relaying the next edition of the programme to the Nigerian audience.

Note the relaxed approach by the Senator. Well, the ban never happened. Roflmao!!

Nudity banned, as Big Brother Africa begins

Saturday, June 13, 2009 - Benjamin Njoku

http://news.onlinenigeria.com/templates/?a=4772

After the controversy that trailed last year’s edition of the world’s first ever continental Big Brother, Nigerians and indeed, Africans are set to behold another season of the sensational reality TV series, Big Brother Africa.

But contrary to what obtained during the previous edition, audience will be disappointed this year as certain aspects of the show such as the show hour, nudity and other accepted norms amongst housemates have been banned. This is part of the new rules to maintain sanity in the house and sustain the uniqueness of the yearly continental show.

L-R, Mr. Joseph Hundah, MD, MultiChoice Nigeria; Ms. Biola Adekambi, MD, M-Net Africa and Mr. Segun Fayo, Head, Communications, MultiChoice Nigeria at the media launch of Big Brother Africa at Planet 1, Ikeja, Lagos.

Also, the old rules banning conspiracy in the house have been lifted, even as contestants will be free to forge alliances, discuss strategy openly and play the game in an entirely different way. Even the voting is set to undergo a complete transformation.

This year, audiences will be asked to vote for the housemates they want to see remain in the series rather than the housemates they want to see leave the house. So it’s all about being positive and keeping the great players in the game.

At the media launch of the continental reality TV show last weekend, in Lagos, Head of the Communication Affairs, Multi-Choice Nigeria Limited, organisers of the yearly event, Mr Segun Fayose, disclosed that the prize money for the competition has been doubled, as it now stands at a phenomenal $200,000 - a breathtaking, life-altering ‘winner takes all’ fortune.
Fayose, said there will be housemates from 14 African countries, including Ghana, Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Also, housemates from Mozambique and Ethiopia are expected to be part of this year’s edition.

Adding to the new mix are, 40 ‘all-seeing, all-knowing’ cameras, which promises almost twice as much sight and sound capability as seasons 1, 2 or 3. Going by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission(NBC) new directives to ensure that children are not exposed to the show, Fayose said, the organisers have sent out letters on time to the hospitality homes, to forewarn them of the implication of showing the show in there respective hotels.

Also, prospective viewers are expected to indicate their interests through sending of SMS to Multi-Choice to be eligible to have channel 190 released to them.
“According to the new rules released by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, Multi-Choice has sent out letters to hospitality homes to warn them not to show Big Brother Africa in their respective hotels as disregarding the order will amount to violating the regulations of NBC.

As part of the new regulation, channel 190 will not be released to any prospective viewer except such persons indicate interest through sending of SMS to Multi-Choice. Until you do that, you are not likely to watch the show.

Kobojunkie:

You keep asking people to provides records when you hardly provide one for your arguments.
On the other hand, Nigeria does not keep record of anything but news has it that people wrote and made thousand of calls to the office of the minister as regards to District 9 and co.

Kobojunkie:

Am against airing of BBA's illicit contents in nigeria, but to be fair, the nude part which was very controversial and degrading has been scrapped. What else are we arguing about here? arhhh.

Kobojunkie:

WOW!! So you are saying  that before she took office, she NEVER heard of or saw the disgusting pictures shown freely and for our kids to see on TV?

People in such offices act according to public opinion and last time I checked; like somebody said "BBA is the next best thing to have happened to nigerian youths after Papa Ajasco hit on Pepeye" shocked
Secondly, She was not the minister when the previous editions were aired.
Thirdly, the illicit part have been scrapped.

Kobojunkie:

Oh!!  Yes, let’s be LENIENT with BBA because we love the show even though it has helped do worse to our image, and essentially made a joke of the MORALITY flags we claim we hold. Lol

I dont love the show, I dont think I will ever. But I wont blackmail it just because some guy came up here to shout racism that is yet to be proven.
And like I said before, the nudity part seem to have been scrapped. The poster is complaining about an unsubstantiated claims of racism.

Is this sincerely about helping Nigeria or about getting back at people who believe america is the center of immorality?

Whats your point? What are we debating here?

1. District 9 was a movie that portrayed nigerians as barbarians. Are you saying it would have been ok if Dora kept quiet?

2. Sony advert portrayed nigerians as fraudsters and Dora made calls for Sony to adjust and not ban. Sony have adjusted and is still selling in nigeria.

3. BBA was asked to adjust too by NASS and they have done that. . . . so, what's the problem?

nuzo:

You keep asking people to provides records when you hardly provide one for your arguments.
Dude, do you need me to post pictures of the nudity and some of the comments from the show to show you what I mean when I say the show is vile and degrading? I mean I would think, that you have seen those yourself since even the articles you referred to state the ban is on NUDITY which will supposedly no longer be allowed.
nuzo:

On the other hand, Nigeria does not keep record of anything but news has it that people wrote and made thousand of calls to the office of the minister as regards to District 9 and co.

Am against airing of BBA's illicit contents in nigeria, but to be fair, the nude part which was very controversial and degrading has been scrapped. What else are we arguing about here? arhhh.

News has it? Many thousands of calls? Where is the record to show this? The same News has it that the same group of Senators, who ignored the many calls to ban BBA for so many years now, sat and watched District 9 and then decided, to ban SONY Ad and district 9; this is the same group that ignored the many calls to ban BBA ooo. To be fair? Please STOP using that word, FAIR!!! Cause there is ABSOLUTELY nothing in the way this was handled compared to how QUICKLY and SWIFTLY the same government handled the recent INTERNATIONAL cases with SONY.

nuzo:

People in such offices act according to public opinion and last time I checked; like somebody said "BBA is the next best thing to have happened to nigerian youths after Papa Ajasco hit on Pepeye" shocked
Secondly, She was not the minister when the previous editions were aired.
Thirdly, the illicit part have been scrapped.

Please Stop!! There have been many Nigerians who have seen the SONY ad and the District 9 movie as well, who have given similar reviews, why does that PUBLIC OPINION not count? If it is the case that the people in such offices act according to public opinion, where is the record to show that MAJORITY of the public were against those two that were BANNED?? NONE!!! Was REBRANDING also as a result of Dora’s office acting according to public opinion?

You keep saying she was not in office, Are you also saying she has NEVER seen the show as well? Are you also saying she had NO CLUE what the situation in Nigeria was before she took position of Minister of Information? I mean it does not take a genius to figure out from first three hours of watching the show that the nudity and some of the words are just not good for Africa, or even the world to see.

So, it is ok that it took less than 2 days to castigate and ban SONY’s works but took months to get working on the BBA to at least remove most of the nude scenes??

nuzo:

I dont love the show, I dont think I will ever. But I wont blackmail it just because some guy came up here to shout racism that is yet to be proven.
And like I said before, the nudity part seem to have been scrapped. The poster is complaining about an unsubstantiated claims of racism.
What has the POSTER and his post to do with this please? I have asked about 2 times now.

nuzo:

Is this sincerely about helping Nigeria or about getting back at people who believe america is the center of immorality?
The later is so evident in your posts.
Where in my post did I mention my comment is about HELPING NIGERIA oooo?? See me see wahala. So, I am not allowed to call out the biased way we deal with issues without it being about one side or the other? I am not to expect better from the MOST RELIGIOUS COUNTRY AND PEOPLE ON THE PLANET?
