Who do you really think will be the next president of Nigeria.  Is it Buba Marwa or IBB?  I think we should leave Atiku out of this issue because I know he can never rule Nigeria.

Well I think Marwa got the people, while IBB got the money to wast.  I pray for Buba Marwa sha!

First of all, I think it's incredible that some people want our former "Maradona" back. We all agree that Rtd. General Ibrahim Babangida a smart, capable man who understands Nigerian politics, but I don't really think he's clean enough for that post. I may be wrong, because I don't follow politics very well, but I feel that the whole 'anti-corruption crusade' might be hampered by IBB's presidency.

On the other hand, I really don't think Buba Marwa is that strong a contender; his popularity may be limited to Lagos and his home state.

I think Atiku is actually our best option. You know, the funny thing is that none of the Ibo men in the current administration is being considered as a contender. I would love to have an Ibo man as president so these people can stop talking about breaking up the country. The National Assembly, where I think we have many of them, has projected an image of unseriousness to the people of Nigeria.

Anyway, I should let the politicians in the house take over this debate. I guess Atiku is my man for now. And funny enough he's a northerner and I'm a southerner tongue.

We have a good chance of becoming Africa's first real super-power (South Africa should 'go siddon' jare). We are in many ways like China, which is being taken more seriously by the Western world today. We have the manpower and we're blessed with lots of gas and oil. If we can survive the next few decades of democracy Nigeria will be up there in no time!

super power with incessant power outtages? with no health care, no drinking water, falling standards of education? We need to talk the truth to ourselves oh!!!! fine agreed we have human resources but the truth is that the brain drain started in the 80's has not stopped, without basic infrastructures, the economy cannot grow.No be curse, just a statement of fact. SO the rains have started again, how many roads in Lagos are motorable??

I tend to agree with jogego, we are forever living in pretence in this Naija. We basically cannot boast of the basic amenities of life let alone talk of most technological advancements in other poorer countires, yet we ask South Africa to 'go siddon.' If indeed we have straight forward rulers and ever ready citizens who are live for the words of JF Kennedy that says 'Ask what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you' Nigeria would have been a far better country.

If I may ask, does it mean we can never have any leader in Naija without having to always recycle one of our old?

Its sad that we can't do better than all of them recycled materials. Well for now sha we must entrench democracy and I will agree with anything just so not to de-rail democracy. We will sure have more choices in the future. Orji Kalu, Tinubu and Bukola Saraki etc will be future pres. materials I hope

emmm, all this ones you named, what is the difference bw them and the old guard apart from age oh
Re: Between Marwa and IBB (2007 Presidential Election) by demmy(m): 7:56am On Jun 11, 2005
First, none of them had participated in politics until this current dispensation unlike the well known old guards. and beside they are govs. which is good experience. good for their resumes. Lets get one thing clear new leader will not just appear out of nowhere. we have to nurture them. They have to be in politics.

The problem with us in Nigeria is that we don't demand enough of our leader. we don't hold them and ourselves to standards. but I believe this will change as our civil dispensation progress.

I like you list, but i would replce Bukola Saraki with Donald Duke. After saraki brought in the foreign farmers and gave them $500,000 each and kicked out several farming communities in his own state, i lost faith in him

In fairness to Seun, he said we have the chance, meaning its not yet a possibility, but could be down the line. he mentioned several decades of dmocracy as needed first. I agree with him. Of course south africa is ahead, but if Nigeria's telecommunjication industry is any indication, we have the ability to surpass south africa pretty fast if we can attract the requist investment in key sectors..

Both Marwa and IBB are politicians who have stolen from national coffers. Nigerians have short memories and are too eager to forgive. But what I dont understand is why we always want mediocres to lead us.

Both of them should forget their selfish ambition and give untainted people the chance. I think Emeka Anyaoku, the former Secretary General of the Common Wealth of Nations has the neccessary qualifications and experience to lead this country to greater height.

Nigerians don’t know what they want or who they want. The system is corrupt just as the leaders. IBB is corrupt, Marwa is and Atiku also is. Can any one there prove me wrong? No! None of this people worked for up to 10% of their wealth. So what are we looking out, just to filter out one of those we think is ok, just ok. We need to think of a more reliable Nigerian for this new day. I and you know they are our problem.
Re: Between Marwa and IBB (2007 Presidential Election) by Jakumo(m): 8:44am On Nov 22, 2005
Seun I have heard from insiders at Aso Rock that Atiku is by far the most accomplished practitioner of corrupt enrichment in the current administration, and that this is the primary reason for the bad blood between Obasanjo and Atiku.

Given a choice between Marwa, Atiku and Babangida, the safest bet for our next president would be Marwa, given his track record as Lagos State Governor.   The other two "Area Fadas" would lead Nigeria into financial quicksand in no time.

I study politics very well in this country and I have never for once miscalculate the politics of this country called Nigeria. I will just be precised in this my post.
Nigerian politics is very dirty and it stinks and that is why the person that rules a state or becomes the President of Nigeria is not determined by the votes cast by the masses, but the manipulation is done by the Electoral committee, in this case INEC, after they have been settled by the Big guns of this country.

Nigeria's problem is not just about who the leaders should be i.e marwa or ibb or whoever else there is to, possibly rule the country! Nigeria's problem is the people, and the bitter fact is that we are a people of more talk less action. All things been equal, a single individual should not hold a people of 150m to ransom like IBB and other past leaders did. Any appointed president that messes up should be kick out, the way that money laundering Governor was. Our destiny should was be in our hands. All said and done, I prefer Marwa. He is just the better of the two evils, at least he didn't leave Lagos in a diaster, the way IBB plunder the whole nation.
