Ogun wins most glamorous contingent If there was any award for the most glamorous states

that attended the President Goodluck Jonathan presidential declaration on Saturday, it would definitely have gone to the Ogun State contingent. Apart from coming with beautifully designed green batik which the state is known for, the contingent was the only one with a band stand. This made many other states abandon their stands and head for the Ogun stand to “shake their bodies.”

Kwara abandons Saraki?

Despite the fact that the Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, has declared his intention to

run for the presidency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party like Jonathan, the

state continent to Jonathan‘s declaration was one of the largest. This made many people wonder whether the state had abandoned their son, Saraki, who on Friday picked his nomination form after paying the mandatory N10.1m.

Tight security

The security at the Eagles Square, venue of the declaration was very tight. While police helicopter hovered round the venue, many other security operatives were around to complement the efforts of the police. Indeed, men of the State Security Service, Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Corps, who came with their fiery-looking dogs, were also there.

A boom for textile manufacturers

The declaration also showed that Nigerians are lovers of aso ebi as many people turned up in

different attire, with Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo photos embossed on them. The

event also showed that more jobs are ahead for the moribund textile companies. With more events like this, they may, after all, not need any further bail out from the Federal Government to regain their lost glory.

Real mother of all rallies

When the Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to Jonathan, Sen. Mohammed Aba-Aji, said the Eagles Square would witness the mother of all rallies during the declaration, nobody took him serious. However, the thousands of people that trooped to the venue as early as 6am on Saturday morning showed that history was made on the occasion.

A former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, spoke the minds of others when he said he had not seen such a large crowd at the Eagles Square before. In fact, the number of persons outside the venue outnumbered those inside. It was indeed the mother of all rallies.

Prostitutes smiled home

Though the authorities at the Federal Capital Territory are still waging war against prostitution

in the nation‘s capital, these women of easy virtue had a field day on Friday night. Apart from the

hotel owners whose business experienced a boom, prostitutes also had a good outing as some of the visitors, who thronged Abuja for the declaration, were seen with them. They did not follow them for free.

Oyo, Osun take rivalry to Abuja

The rivalry between the states re-echoed at the venue as their contingents engaged themselves

in a subtle fight, using sachet water as their weapons. The bone of contention: The Oyo

contingent, who came in large numbers, ostensibly more than the seats provided for them, had taken over the seats of other states, including that of Osun. Efforts made to let them give their brothers and sisters from the ‘State of the Living Spring‘ failed as they stuck to their seats. The result: A scuffle. Policemen and other security agents watched helplessly as the contingents entertained them.
