The Federal Government has called on the World Bank to assist Nigeria in reducing the number of out-of-school children from 10 to 5 million by the year 2023.

The government said the reduction was in line with the goal of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu (retd), in ensuring that Nigerian children have access to qualitative education, irrespective of their economic backgrounds.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, stated this in Abuja on Wednesday when a World Bank delegation led by led by its Country Director, Shubham Chawdry, paid him a visit.

According to a statement by the ministry, Adamu expressed discomfort at the number of out-of-school children in the country.

Adamu said that the Federal Government was keen on reducing the number in addition to improving the standard of education in the country.

He said that the Education Ministry was currently working with the World Bank on projects aimed at encouraging children back to school, particularly in the area of increased enrollment of the girl-child.

The statement said, “While commending the World Bank on its commitment to the development of the nation’s educational sector, Adamu expressed government’s readiness for better interventions that will tackle obstacles to the eradication of the out-of-school children phenomenon.”

Chawdry, who pledged the readiness of his organisation to assist in financing more developmental projects in Nigeria, said the World Bank would “no longer dictate developmental projects but leave the decision to governments” as they were “in the best position to ascertain the needs of their citizens”.

He declared the interest of the World Bank in long-lasting projects but stressed that education remained a sure way of eliminating poverty.

I perceive it is related to the recently banned Almajirai system of education.

Good move

Nigeria!

We keep going in a circle.

The effort Johnathan made to reduce the number of out of school children in the north at the expense of the south what support did he get from the northern elite?

He was labelled Boko haram sponsor.

with all the resources we have we still belittle ourselves before international bodies.

If we beg today, 2mrw we will beg again because there is no political will to reduce the level of illeteracy in the north.

What is wrong with the black man towards his brother! To think that we are religious people.

Indeed, beware of a black man..(sorry to say).

Why won't whites always disrespect and discriminate black africans.when all we know is borrow, borrow, borrow and disturb for help. And we claim to be the giant and biggest economy in Africa.

When will blacks start borrowing other race and when will another continent ask us for help?

World Bank, International Monetary Fund and foreign organizations must come to our aid to provide jobs and now to school our children, haba!

Did you call them when you were making babies and celebrating f-ing teenage girls on social media?

There is a difference between black man in Africa that has a country to manage, that throw away resources, launder earned foreign income and send desperado outside to compete with other blacks in their countries. These are European and American blacks that are suffocated out of economy and life.

Instead of providing opportunities at home for your children and Diaspora blacks, our children are running away to compete with Diaspora blacks for pittance and crumbs thrown their way.

You launder money and resources outside for you and your families, you must face firing squad or jungle justice.
