It sounds like the user account you are logged in as doesn't have the required privileges. It must be member of the default "Users" group. The default permissions allotted to this group do not allow members to modify operating system settings or other user's data. You can only install signed windows applications from this account.

I doubt if there's a way around this. You'll need the Administrator(member of the administrator group) to either help you do the installation(Using the "RUN AS" to invoke your installation), or upgrade your user account(adds you to a user group with sufficient privileges).

Just Login as system?

--------------------------

start > run > and type cmd

in cmd type:
at hh:mm /interactive "cmd.exe"
(hh:mm is equal to ur time on screen + 1 minute)

then wait 1min for new cmd window to pop up. When it pops up terminate the explorer.exe proccess using task manager or whatever(ctrl + alt + del > processes > explorer.exe > end process). Then in new cmd window type:
cd \
cd Windows
explorer.exe

You are now logged in as system. You have bigger privileges the admin, and u can even change its password by typing NET USER account_name in cmd, then just log out and log in as admin.

@inze

Impressive. Just some stuffs you did not consider:

inze:

Just Login as system?
Just how do you log on as system? If mean, log in as administrator, then he wont be having a problem in the first place.

inze:

at hh:mm /interactive "cmd.exe"
Do you know that a user account that is not a member of the Administrators group needs to be granted/delegated the privilege to run the at command?

From what he stated, I can tell his account lacks this privilege.

@Poster

Try as inze says and prove me wrong. Only way the "at" command would run is if he has been explicitly granted the privilege.
