Egypt has rejected an Israeli proposal for the two countries to coordinate to re-open the Rafah crossing between Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip, and to manage its future operation, two Egyptian security sources said. Officials from Israeli security service Shin Bet presented the plan on a visit to Cairo on Wednesday, amid rising tension between the two countries following Israel's military advance last week into Rafah The Israeli proposal included a mechanism for how to manage the crossing after an Israeli withdrawal, the security sources said. Egypt insists the crossing should be managed only by Palestinian authorities, they added.

The US House of Representatives last night (Israel time) passed a bill forbidding the president to delay arms shipments to ISRAEL. The motion passed by a vote of 224-187, including 16 Democrats who supported it. Biden has already said he will veto the bill when it reaches his desk. |

As expected, the American Congress approved a bill a short time ago that aims to prevent the Biden administration from delaying arms shipments to Israel. The proposal was approved by a majority of 224 supporters against 187 opponents. Despite explicit instructions from the White House, 16 members of the Democratic Party (headed by Biden) violated them and voted along with the Republicans in favor of the bill. President Biden threatened earlier this week to impose a presidential veto on the proposal if it is approved.
