OSUN YOUTH COMMISSIONER HOSTS OGUN YOUTH CHAIRMAN, OTHERS AT STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The Hon. Commissioner for Youth Affairs in Osun State, Hon. Moshood Olagunju, on Wednesday February 28, 2024, played host to the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi, Leaders and other State Chairmen of the Youth Council across the Southwest region of Nigeria.

The Stakeholders’ Meeting convened to resolve a lingering crisis within the youth constituency of Osun State also had a rebuttal to an allegation of the Commissioner for Youth Affairs being instrumental to the prolonged crisis.

Addressing the Stakeholders present at the meeting, Olagunju, through a Press Conference, stated that the crisis predated his appointment, which he has been doing everything possible to resolve amicably. “As the Father of the youth, I am deeply committed to the welfare and wellbeing of all youth in the State, and I have always strive to support the initiatives that empower them and foster their development.

“It is unfortunate that certain individuals have chosen to propagate falsehood and engage in smear campaign in an attempt to tarnish my reputation and sow discord within the youth council.

“Today, I have called upon all Stakeholders involved in this matter to prioritise the interest of our youth and work together, constructively, to resolve any grievance or dispute through dialogue, democratic setting and mutual respect. Our youth are the future of this nation, and they deserve our unwavering support and solidarity,” he said.

In his goodwill message to the Stakeholders, Shoremi conveyed the appreciation of the youth leadership of Ogun State to the Commissioner for his presence at the Unity Congress held at the Valley View auditorium in October 2023, which led to the emergence of the 10th State Executives of the Youth Council. He expressed his confidence in the appointment of the Commissioner as a right cause towards positioning the interest of the young people of Osun State. Conclusively, he rallied the youths to give necessary support to the Commissioner towards their collective interest.

Other Stakeholders present at the event were the Senior Special Assistant to Osun Governor on Youth Affairs, Hon. Stephen Famokuwa; the Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor on CSOs, Hon. Adebisi Emmanuel; the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Mrs. Taiwo A; and the following Officers of the National Youth Council of Nigeria: Ms. Olayinka Odutayo (Member of the Advisory Board), Otunba Eniola Tope (the National Vice—President Headquarters), Elder James Olalekan (Coordinator for Voluntary Youth Organisations, Southwest Nigeria), Com. Ayub Jimoh—Giwa (National Programmes Officer), Com. Abdul-Salam Quadri (Chairman of Oyo State), Com. Segun Famuyibo (Chairman of Ekiti State), Com. M. A. Ogunmola (Chairman of Ondo State), and the host Chairman of Osun State — Com. AbdulMajeed Oladimeji.
