Senator Ifeanyi Ubah CON, representing the Anambra South Senatorial District, is leading a pivotal drive in Nigeria's quest for energy self-sufficiency by spearheading the ongoing Senate Ad-hoc Committee's inspection of the nation's refineries. Following a comprehensive assessment of the Warri Refinery the day prior, Senator Ubah led the committee on an oversight visit to the Port Harcourt Refinery on April 19, 2024.

Accompanied by high-ranking officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), including the Executive Vice-President (Downstream), Mr. Dapo Segun, and received by a delegation from the Port Harcourt Refinery, led by Managing Director Ibrahim M. Onoja,the Senate Adhoc Committee members , embarked on a meticulous examination of the refinery's Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) projects.

During this immersive tour, Senator Ubah took the opportunity to extend sincere appreciation for the commendable progress witnessed in the TAM efforts at the Port Harcourt Refinery. He lauded the unwavering dedication and relentless efforts of the refinery's management and staff in elevating the facility to new heights of efficiency and productivity.

In his address, Senator Ubah emphasized the critical importance of prioritizing safety and environmental sustainability in the refinery's operations. He underscored the imperative for continuous exploration of innovative technologies and adoption of best practices to further enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable growth in the petroleum sector.

After a thorough inspection of the refinery during the oversight visit.the Committee also paid strategic courtesy calls to the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the state's government house as well as the Governor of Delta state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori. This segment of the visits provided a conducive platform for Senator Ubah and his delegation to engage in fruitful discussions with key stakeholders in the petroleum industry and the host community aimed at fostering collaboration and synergy towards shared objectives.

Senator Ubah expressed profound satisfaction with the level of support extended by the federal government, under the dynamic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in ensuring the expeditious completion of the TAM projects. The Senator also commended the Managing Director of NNPCL ,Mr Mele Kyari and expressed his unwavering confidence that with sustained momentum and concerted efforts, Nigeria's dependence on imported petroleum products would witness a substantial decline in the foreseeable future.

In conclusion, Senator Ubah extended heartfelt gratitude to all committee members for their unwavering cooperation, dedication, and resolute commitment to realizing the noble objective of getting our local refineries to commence seamless production of locally refined petroleum products.
