Most of us help to create the avenue for our exploitation. Those who accept to work in badly-structured organisations are part of the problem. The school didn't force the friend to work in the school. If you willingly accept to work in such an organisation, don't complain.

There is something called unhealthy competition. Job hunters in Nigeria do it a lot. They see an organisation that has a bad management. They rush to work for the organisation and later complain. Their rush and the desperation they show even make those organisations to feel like gods. That's why those organisations don't even pay well because they know that many are desperate to take the jobs.

I know that life is hard. But if you make up your mind to accept a job in a bad organisation, also make up your mind to bear the consequences.

I am an orphan. My parents died poor. Nothing like inherited wealth for me. I lost interest in state universities and state polygenics because they are more corrupt than private and federal schools. I suffered for 10 years before I got an opportunity to attend a good university. But during the 10 years, many people around me complained about what they were facing in state schools. Each time I reminded them that they knew the school system before they accepted the school, they claimed I was very privileged. A few of them that know my background could not make the same claim, but they simply said, "Not everybody thinks like you".

I graduated last year. I am still searching for a job. But I have rejected 3 jobs because of the structures of those organisations and for the fact that they don't pay well. Some people claim I have pride. Those are the type of People that will accept the jobs, complain about the poor salary and the bad management. Yet, they will attack me when I blame them for accepting the job. This is also the mentality many of you use in marriages. You choose an incompatible partner or marry when you are not ready. You do this because of societal pressure. Then, you complain in the marriage.

If you don't want to frustrate yourself, be patient in life. After my secondary school, I waited for 10 years before I could get admission to a university. But I entered and graduated from a good university that has at least upgraded my life in terms of knowledge. I graduated last year. Because of that university, I got my passport and have visited a few African countries. If I had attended those public schools and complained like you people, I would have graduated many years ago. But I doubt if I could have travelled out of Nigeria by now.

Those who came up with the proverb that a patient dog eats the fatest bone are right. I attended a very poor public primary school. I attended a very bad public secondary school, where teachers hardly entered classes. If you check my history on this forum, you may come across a comment where I stated that the three senior classes in the secondary school I attended had only one Maths teacher who entered my class only four times in 3 years. The teacher entered my class twice in my SS1, once in my SS2 and once in my SS3.

I get you sir... You are a determined and hardworking person who takes no shiit... No one will know u didn't attend good elementary and secondary school. You write well.... Your reason above is the reason I have change my Job seven times in the sopace of ten years I don't spend more than 2 years in any organization. Because of their working environment... I once taught at a big school at Lagos. The entire school knew me despite having branches in Lagos... I don't take nonsense... That' why my boss liked me... I will do my job but the moment you start making me work unplanned or underpressure I start to get agitated... You expect me to do a 2 days job in an hour I don't condone such... Public holidays are for civil servants by default, there is nowhere i n law that mandates private companies to observe public hoiday. But I get your point. Even some bankers will go to work during public holidays. Doctors and nurses and other emergency services go to work during public holidays!

The bankers that go to work during public holidays get paid for it and the nurses and doctors fall into a special case of workers.

This is why sometimes we adopt a nonchalant attitude in Nigeria, it Mayday here public holiday and I am at work, I am a salary earner in London so get paid at the end of each month. There is nothing wrong if you have to go to work on a public holiday to carry out tasks.

I jokingly told him that as par there will be a public holiday tomorrow, that he would have a day rest when work hasn't started yet. That was how he told me that the school asked them to come around tomorrow, that they will be going for publication to distribute fliers around the environment.

Now my problem with this is that this particular school each arm has A to E (for example jss1 A to E) and they have more than 30 students in each class. So I was wondering why they are now troubling their teachers for something that isn't in their job description.

Like why can't the owner employ people to help him do the publication or go to radio or tv station for advert and the fact the teachers won't be paid for what they are doing as it is counter by the owner as part of their work. Is this behavior proper because it kinds of sounds annoying to me working in the sun on a public holiday just because of the owners selfish interest.

private schools don't give breaks like that, the July/august break usually have summer lesson for a month which is compulsory for teachers, some school may no even pay full for that service as they decide to share the profit from the lesson. Also most teachers resume a week before the actual resumption date to write lesson note and prepare for resumption so the 3 weeks break isn't actually 3 weeks and don't forget they fix classes for ss3 student during the last break in other to prepare them for waec.

But NLC is NOT GOVERNMENT sponsored, they should protect workers. Go to all these Indian and lebanese companies and see how their workers are badly treated. If NLC closes down one of them today and sends the video of how the staff are poorly treated on social media. People will take NLC serious.

The day after, he will be told to trim flowers, soon he will be doing that for everyone there, thereby taking away job opportunities from car washers and gardeners. But when he complains about his boss being unfair, he will forget he is part of the problem too. He is the reason a gardener somewhere is jobless.

This is not a private school problem but an Africa problem. People employs a private driver but will send them to the market to buy foodstuffs.
Cooks will be asked to wash clothes and sweep compound.
People will employ a secretary but send them on errands outside the scope of a secretary. The list goes on.
The worst is that the employer will make the employee feels like they are doing them a favour when it comes to paying salary.

Closing the newspaper clearly did not solve the problem of exploitative schools. Trust me there were thousands of exploitative schools in the days of Oshiomhole.

I asked my guy Allen the Chinese, he said there's holiday for 5days but you know our shipping company's boss has many waters in his head,he said no holiday with no compensation...... so you see,I've got first hand info, we need to stop thinking that it's only in Nigeria that these things happen, other countries have one or two things in common and if others in different countries can say the truth,you will realize that labor market or being employed get some bad sides which when you check other countries you see that they are almost similar

O don't think there is anything wrong with creating awareness for your workplace - PROVIDED the compensation is adequate.
