Host Community To Bingham Varsity: Hire Qualified Individuals From Our Community by OlabisiiJ: 6:22pm On May 01
The Gbagyi Youths in Karu local government area of Nasarawa state, the host community of Bingham University, urged the institution to prioritize hiring qualified individuals from our community for both academic and non-academic positions.

The youth also demand equitable job opportunities for members of the host community.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, the spokesperson of the group, Gaza Mark Aura, said, "Bingham University must prioritize hiring qualified individuals from our community for both academic and non-academic positions."

According to him, this will not only contribute to the socio-economic development of our community but also ensure diversity and representation within the university workforce.

Auta explained that the current lack of representation of host community members in managerial positions within the university administration is unacceptable.

"We demand that qualified individuals from our community be appointed to key managerial roles, including department heads, deans, and other administrative positions.

"This will ensure that our voices are heard and our interests are represented in decision-making processes.

"The host community has a wealth of talent and resources that are often overlooked when awarding contracts for various projects and services at Bingham University.

"We demand that indigenous companies from our community be given fair consideration and equal opportunity to compete for contracts related to construction, maintenance, and other services required by the university."

Speaking further, he said, "As the host community, we want the presence of a host community member in the management team anytime a new management team is constituted, starting with the post of the outgoing Registrar.

"The position of Registrar is crucial to the efficient functioning of Bingham University.

"We demand that a qualified member of the host community be appointed as the next Registrar.

This will not only ensure representation but also bring a deeper understanding of the needs and aspirations of our community to the university's administrative leadership.

"We call upon the university administration to act with integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to justice and inclusivity. The time for token gestures and empty promises is over."
