“A plan to swindle the people” – PDP accuses Ondo governor of diverting N5billion for elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for allocating ₦5 billion for the renovation and purchase of accessories for daycares in the state.

The opposition party alleged an ulterior motive behind the large sum budgeted for the project and accused the ruling party of preparing to gather funds for the upcoming governorship election.

Kennedy Peretei, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, expressed concern over the alleged fraud and demanded that those involved be identified and held accountable.

He questioned how such errors could go unnoticed in a budget document that went through several layers of screening and vetting before being forwarded to the Ondo State House of Assembly.

His words: “What is regrettable about a document that went through several layers of screening and vetting before being forwarded to the Ondo State House of Assembly?

“At the Assembly, the House Committee on Appropriation invites government officials who take turns to defend the same budget. Is it the case that nobody spotted these regrettable errors?

“It was the plan of the Aiyedatiwa government to swindle the people through the daycare renovation project that was thwarted by the eagle-eyed media.

“Our party will not fold its hand and watch the APC and Aiyedatiwa fleece our meagre resources just for the political aspiration of one man, no matter how highly placed.

I don't even know what to say, but all I know is when the time is right everyone will come outside and fight for their right. Our politicians are doing too much and when they push their citizens to the wall then everyone will fight back.

The most dangerous fight is against someone that has nothing to lose and very soon Nigerian citizens will have nothing to lose and they will fight back. It will definitely happen if the politicians did not put a stop to all this corruption.

I like the fact that the opposition is taking proactive measures and making it imperative that transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship is prioritized in governance.

This will State ensure resources are utilized effectively for the benefit of all.

Why is it so easy for Governors to divert people's money?

The system is full of holes and the public servants are the one helping the Governor to explore the holes in the system.
