Why don't the authorities put in place street level crossing points .... widely used internationally in urban areas since the early 1900's? ... crosswalks. They travel abroad ... and been seeing them. Those bridges need to come down... not everyone is physically able to use them... or use them without great difficulty and suffering. Inconsiderate pekple.. not at all progressive .... stuck in the distant past. |

Pedestrian bridge is outdated. Implement a modern zebra crossing otherwise i will just see this as a way to milk the already vulnerable masses off their earnings at this time of hardship Alot of people are hungry and having health challenges . |

Learning from the West is good but we should not limit ourselves to only what the West does or innovated. We should not believe that our own ideas can't be good because the West didn't implement similar first. We Nigerians should be excited about creating aspects of urbanity that are unique to Nigeria. Being different should not worry us it should be something we strive for and embrace. As a new Nation with unestablished infrastructure, capable Nigerians in authority and positions of influence should not be frightened into inactivity by the ignorant masses. Now, I'm sure if authorities in Lagos think for themselves , they will find ways of taming Lagos's unruly population, costs permitting. |

The thing is the pedestrian bridge is far to some people in some areas and it doesn't make sense having to walk a very long distance to climb bridge only to walk back again. A good example is ALADIE bustop that's between onipan and palmgroove ikorodu road. It's only a stupid person that will walk all the way to palmgroove or onipan to use the pedestrian bridge there. Even governor wey set the law in this scenario no go climb the bridge. So some places still need to have bridges. Or imagine the distance between Anthony/town planning and obanikooro , all those staying in-between have no choice than to jump the road. 3 Likes |

maxiuc: It's at Oshodi that it had been happening even before the law was made, as far back as Early 2015, Guys on mufti had been arresting people who Cross to and fro the other sides, I was warned by a Kai official, when I went to ask for direction, Thing is the bridges are usually to far away from each other, For example, when going to Coca Cola depot at mushin, and coming from Ojuelagba, instead of dropping at the bus stop and crossing over, You will have to alight at the last Bus stop, which is very near to Oshodi, then walk to Oshodi, to use the Bridge, again another long walk awaits you, that's if you don't have the cash for TP, to Coca Cola |

For a city like Lagos that is largely stark and concrete looking and could do with beautification and has a wet undesoil, Lagos is not exploiting the power of nature enough. For instance, Lagos could employ hedging beside roads to create awkward obstacles for people insistent on crossing roads en-masse. It's a cheaper, more elegant and desirable option to ugly industrial looking railings. Stubborn people could climb over railings, cut and cart away parts in a way they are unable to with hedging. Both can be solutions were best fitting. Certain hedging solutions species can attain huge heights and are ideal for the Nigeria weather and climate. 1 Like

First of all. Some of those bridges are poorly designed. I will give my review as a pedestrian bridge user, and someone who HATES climbing stairs. Take for example the new pedestrian bridge at tejuosho market. It's like climbing the stairs to the 4th floor of a right rise building. Turning up and down to climb up. What of the bridge at onipanu and ojota?. Their stairs are so steep that you will quickly tire after a few steps, you will feel like you are rock-climbing a hill, not trying to cross a road. To me one of the best pedestrian bridges is the one at Fadeyi bustop. The incline is not too much so it is more sloped therefore climbing the steps is easier. It also has the part that is pure slope without any staircase which is convenient for wheelchairs and people pushing carts. It is also easier to rush down that slope when climbing down. A close second is the one at Aswani junction, and oshodi isale( the old one that connects two terminals of the BRT stations, not the new one by the railway). A lot of people have different ailment that make it difficult to climb the pedestrian bridges. People with heart problems, elderly people, obese people, people with one handicap or another, small children( especially for onipanu and ojota bridges) Yes they are safer overall I agree, but I am giving a review of some of these bridges the developers design. They design it without thinking that people will climb it. It will only look good on paper, not in practice. Till today I still hate that tejuosho pedestrian bridge that I find it preferable to trek the flyover bridge itself where cars use, even though it is 2-3 times the distance which is what many people do especially those who frequent the area. Lastly the person that planned it is an olodo. I saw a similar bridge in iyana ipaja area. Thank God I hardly have errands taking me there. 2 Likes |
