EFCC arrests ex-governor Ibori By Oscarline Onwuemenyi, Abuja Published: Wednesday, 12 Dec 2007 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday finally arrested the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, for alleged money laundering and other corrupt acts. He was arrested by the operatives of the commission after they had trailed him to the Kwara State Governor’s lodge in Abuja, where he was reported to be hiding. Sources at the Operations Unit of the commission informed our correspondent that the ex-governor had been trailed from his Protea Hotel room, in Asokoro area, where he had been staying after he arrived Abuja the previous day. “We received intelligence that the former governor had been staying in the hotel since yesterday,” a source said. “However, initial attempts to arrest him failed when our men got to the hotel but found out he had escaped. “Apparently, he had got wind of the impeding arrest, and moved out before dawn. Further intelligence revealed that he was hiding at the lodge of the Kwara State Governor, at Asokoro, where our people now found him,” the source added. The commission is investigating Ibori for alleged corruption offences, including money laundering. Souce: http://punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2007121215242082 |

iykrion: I wonder! Nigerians and sensationalism. Is Alameyesiegha not enjoying what is left over of his loot today? Please let us hear word with this EFCC and fake arrests! Like being an ex-convict means anything in Nigeria. In fact you become more appealing and cannonized! |

In fact, I truly think that this arrest is a home made arraignment. These folks will settle themselves behind the door when the time is right. Please, waste no time jubilating; it is known that Ibori was responsible for at least 80% of the Yar'Adua's presidential election expense. Nothing is for free, my friends. |

Atlest he is arrested, even if nothing good will come out of it. He will become an ex-convict (this means nothing in Nigeia) but so many other eyes are watching and listening. Let's just hope he is prosecuted (which is very unlikely). |

So what do you guys want and and how do you guys plan to "begin" getting there? They arrest you complain, they "fake arrest" you complain, they do nothing you complain! I will prefer a situation where Ibori is "fake-arrested", made to return "half" of his loot, and made to spend 3 months in jail or at Transcorp Hilton Hotel - but under house arrest nevetheless, than a situation where he says a big "F**k U" to the entire country (Delta in particular) and nothing is done. Likewise, lets do same to OBJ, Atiku, IBB and the rest. And just maybe some sanity may begin to creep into public corruption in Nigeria gradually. Its a step in the right direction inspite of what some nay-sayers and corruption advocates may claim. |

Ibori is a thief and his arrest is long overdue.Hopefully we can get back some of the money and develop the niger delta. Ibori should be castrated for his action, and i am sure nigerians will agree on this line of action. |

I feel its a rite step in the rite direction. Whether nothing is done or not, its shows we are not in support of criminals like Ibori. Lets watch and see, it definitely will not end here even with those "seemingly forgotten" cases. |

Not too sure what to beleive anymore, because at the end of the day Micheal Aondoakaa will get back to work and do what he knows how to do best. The only beneficiary of this whole dramma at the moment is President Yaradua, he is on a visit to US and thus a nosing President Bush will have no business questioning the honesty of Nigeria's anti-corruption war when President Yaradua's highest election donor has just been arrested and prosecuted. A record that even he President Bush can not boast of, but after that Micheal Aondoakaa will get back to work and stall the process. Fight against corruption with Micheal Aondoakaa still as AGF is an excersize in futility, insincere and unexciting, and to be honest there has been more exciting news about Nigeria in the past 2 days see below (though if taken seriously) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7137969.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7140578.stm Note: I did not say Presidency ochestrated it, just saying they might be the only beneficiaries |

Please, I say let us hear word! All this one is to make sure Ibori never runs for president as a heroic ex-convict. It ends there abi? Meanwhile the "babanlas" of corruption are grooming other godsons and the "Adedi-buttocks of Nigerian politics" to grow stronger wings. Good! Next it will be Odili or Igbinedion or Duke. No problem with that--for they are all corrupt. I agree and totally accept! I say all well and good. But they should also make sure it reaches the Northern and Western states too. All I want to know is when it will reach Tinubu and Atiku them turn. Is it in this life time? Useless people! Rubbish! |
